Getting back into your career after moving back Stateside?

Heyo!

One of my fears/concerns about moving is getting back into my career field once I move back stateside.
I never saw my move to VI as a permanent one for now.

I wanted to hear what others did about having a gap in similar employment.

For me it would be years of IT, move down and most likely get a bar/restaurant gig, then move back and try to re-enter IT.

Thanks.

At the bar/restaurant gig just be the guy in charge of rebooting the WIFI router when it locks up and then you can claim complete continuity with your IT career.

I would think it would be easier to get back into your field in the states as there are many more opportunities to do so

Why not look for IT opportunities in the VI?

If tending bar is the dream - then set up a small IT-type consulting business on the side that will give you something to talk about on your resume if/when you return to the states. You know, self-starter kind of stuff.

Otherwise, after a couple of years in the VI, your IT experience will become outdated.

Employers now really only look at your most recent 5 years of job history.
