I take my CUL bags with me everywhere. I am not a fan of the plastic bags in my house even with a toddler. My point is not that plastic bags are good. They obviously are not here because people are vile pigs. My point is banning things is a knee jerk reaction. Improve education on the subject. Incentivize alternatives. Change the public perception. First it will be plastic bags, then plastic silverware, then styrofoam.. I'm sorry but those recycled paper carry out boxes do to cut it. They leak, they get mushy. I don't get much carry out but damnit I want two styrofoam containers. I want a plastic straw at dinner for my boy. I think the world can handle my yearly 18 styrofoam containers and half a dozen straws.

Oh boy here we go again....

Sparty wont be happy until anything that bothers or inconveniences people is dead and the ocean is so acidic we have to wear respirators. :@) :@) :@)

Actually in many countries in Africa its highly successful. I don't remember seeing any when I was in SA and Cape...we used boxes from produce for our groceries. Hawaii just did last year and my friends that live there say its a great thing highly supported by the majority of the community. I will just chose not to be lazy - make a couple trips if need be and / or use fabric ones. Plaza gives them out when you buy over $100 and I am betting most people spend at least $100 at one time each month so seems simple solution. If we do the pay per bag program, I don't think that will work. It doesn't solve the problem. Just get rid of them all together all at once and let us deal with it.

Its not rocket science. The people will not implode if we ditch these we can adapt to a life without plastic grocery bags. "Sarcasm"

So now I'll just have to buy garbage bags instead of using my used grocery bags. I fail to see how this helps anyone except the supermarket.

UGH. I had this huge post but we differ too much so I'll just ask you two things:

18 styro boxes X 7.125 billion people = ?
Sorry I suck at math.

I am not a parent nor will I ever be but I would like to know, - honestly - not being snarky but don't you want a planet where your kids, kids can breath?

Ok first.. I am privileged enough to be able to get take out foods. I recognize that. Billions barely eat, let alone worry about what take out containers they will get.

Listen, I believe in man made global warming. I am an advocate for recycling. I would love to see us break our total dependence on oil. I enjoy the wildlife the world offers. I love the look on my boy's face when he see the fish circling us at Coki. I just don't buy into the Chicken Little "Sky is Falling" hype. There is plenty of time to "save the planet" through education.. The tide is already shifting. We do not need more new unenforceable laws that hurt businesses and consumers.

I don't think banning plastic grocery bags is going to kill businesses.
The problem will be educating our population on the proper way to recycle and having a WMA that can implement this and follow thru on their end without making it financially burdensome and time consuming.

It's not like we have services for the taxes we do pay as it is.
The beautification projects and anti litter laws fell to the wayside decades ago, actually around the time WMA was created.
The abandoned vehicle project has no funding and has been discontinued. The list goes on.

The main road to my location is so overgrown that it's no longer 2 lanes. Dodging potholes (craters) is a way of life.

Mapp talks a good game but the results have yet to match the words.
If they ever do, I'm more than happy to give credit where credit is due.
