The Governor racked up more than $87k in private charter flights in his first eight months, per the Avis. This doesn't include first class flights for himself and staff to the mainland and Guam. The Legislature should cut his budget in half for the next fiscal year.

And didn't the article say at least one flight was taken in Dec 2014 before he was sworn in?

And that's just for air travel. Doesn't include luxury hotel stays, meals for him and large entourage, private chef, body guards, limo and driver for himself and Potter, nor Potter's Mahogany Run condo rental and who knows what else since they aren't releasing expenses as requested by the Daily News.

Monarch Mapp reigns supreme at taxpayer expense.

Wonder why we are paying for a tourism commissioner when Mapp seems to like that job better than that of governor.
Oh yeah, the perks!

Additionally, he's got about 50 relatives now employed at high paying jobs in his administration.

We're picking up the tab for it all.
The senators need to rein his backside in!

I blame the legislature much more than I blame him. He's a pig. He's stolen money before; this is not a surprise. See posted link detailing his 25k a month bribe from rich friends while serving as Lt. Gov: http://www.depeopledemvoice.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Esquire-Deposition-Services-1.pdf

These no good Senators enable his gluttony. They are the keepers of the territory's purse, and are ultimately accountable for the way funds are spent. They can, at any time, slash his budget, enact restrictions on travel, and push for an independent AG to arrest any person who wishes to defy their budgetary mandates.

Then there's the matter of 3000 missing ballots in last election that isn't being followed up on by the AG's Office nor by the Senators. WTF!

Until the matter of the missing ballots are investigated, we'll never know how people actually voted.

Voting for me is about whom you perceive to be the lesser of evils rather than the most honorable, capable and qualified.

Would be a nice change to have the latter.

Mapp has made it clear that the AG is his personal attorney. Why would an attorney do anything that is against his client's interests? The AG under this structure will do whatever it takes to protect the governor, as that is his boss and primary client. While the people are screwed.

Even while we have so much talent! The political class does not reflect the capabilities of the VI people. The "good" people just don't run.

EDIT: I take that back. The judge was an excellent candidate. I hope she runs again.

And now we hear he dropped more than $5000 on bed linens and towels? Absurd. And he likely paid sales tax in FL as well, even though Macy's will ship for free to the VI and then there's no tax.
I wouldn't buy this expensive stuff for my own house, and if I did it would be with a coupon and on sale, Macy's even has an arrangement for getting a discount if you are a traveler/visitor from another country etc., you go to the office in some stores and they give you a discount card

Mapp don't care about no lousy discount.
Aren't you forgetting that he's our monarch and can spend our money as he sees fit. Budget, discounts, wise spending? HA!

No, I've always hated him and while he was Ltgov found it embarrassing to be in the states where he was and have to listen to him treat people like dirt because he was a god and needed to be treated as such. I just hate the way he's getting away with all this now, and not doing anything as governor that I can see, that would improve any of the terrible conditions, situations, or future that we have currently. Makes me wish I cold just end all of our involvement in and with the VI and walk away after 30 some years.

I met a teacher yesterday that spent $250 of her own money for supplies for her classroom while waiting for her salery to be deposited into her account. Pretty frigging pathetic where priorities are concerned.

I did write a Senator today to ask when the legislature is planning on reigning in Mapp's and their spending.

Awaiting a response.

Unfortunately this is common throughout the public school system in the US.

More spending...now we pay for the food he eats and the pots his meals are cooked in by his $65K a year personal chef!

It's appalling.

This doesn't even address the level of nepotism with his hiring of
30 plus family members to high paying jobs in his administration.

I was reading about a coup in Burkina Faso, and seeing pictures of their "leader" and first thing that came to my mind was Mapp.
