You bought the house 2 years ago and they just filmed it 3 months ago, wow that's strange. I wonder if that is their normal practice. Now I am kind of turned off by the show, its strikes me as being a kind of fraud. Not that I believe reality shows are not all set ups but nevertheless I am disappointed

Ziggy, How scripted was it? I notice on almost every show someone says" I can see myself waking up to that view" or I can see myself sitting out here drinking morning coffee".

Hi....we were the ones that bought at Gentle Winds. We bought in May 2009, filmed in August 2009 and the show aired in April 2010. The production company that filmed us would only film a show if you were in a contract to buy a place or had already purchased a place. They did not want to waste time and money if you were going to walk away. I think Doug and Lindy had a different production company tape their show. We taped for 5 days and unfortunately had no say in what they chose to air. We spend as much time as possible in St. Croix and once our boys are out of high school and off to college I plan to be there most of the year. We love St. Croix!!

In respinse to Terry, It really wasn't to scripted, but the director/editor kept trying to get me to complain about price and then to get my wife to say she wanted everything plus a bag of chips when we went into every house. Basically, we filmed for over 30 hours and they used about 10 minutes of what we spoke. I would imagine that it is pretty much that way for every "reality" show. Therefore, it must be in editing that they try to portray what they want the audience to hear.
I wasn't too happy about how we came across in the episode...but I'm happy we did it becuase it will be cool for our kids to see them selves on tv when they are a little older and i thought St. Croix looked beautiful...so hopefully it will get a few people interested in coming to visit our gorgeous island. (That being said, I'm a little pissed becasue they over stated what we paid for our house by nearly $100,000 and that doesn't do anyone any good to think that our real estate prices are inflated over what they realy are.

In response to Stcmike, yes. You got the time line right. I know that all reality shows are fake. I had friends in the states who worked on several of them and I came to that realization a few years ago. It was a fun experience, but far from reality.

Watch the episode last night.
I thought yoyozig and his wife were great. The real estate lady drove me crazy, especially on the last house when Mike said it was 30,000 over the budget, she said you will just have to come up with more money with a smile. Then she said that granite counter tops wouldn't cost much on the second house. Really.
I think the view from the house they chose is beautiful.

I saw the show last night, I like the couple and I am glad you didn't pay anywhere near the asking price. I do have one question, considering you pad 100k less for your propery do you have any regrets in not buying the third property shown on the show. Maybe you could have gotten that for 100k cheaper. You and your wife came off very nice however the RE agent, I will never use her.

We just watched this episode last night and because we are from Indiana also we can understand the need to "go tropical". We are looking forward to visiting Ziggy's during our next trip to STX in March 2012. I found this episode much more "real" than the one where the couple expected to get property for half the asking price. Even though you can "view" the water from where you live I would think that a pool would be ideal for those days you just don't want to pack everything up and go to the beach. We watch HHI all the time and if I had the money I would certainly pay these prices for Paradise rather than the HUGE asking prices for some of the other countries where the houses have a wall missing, no roof, crumbing foundations and no plumbing! TV will always be TV and good programming doesn't always mean showing "reality" 🙂

Seriously, if you believe that these shows are "real" then you should sit home and watch TV. I thought you did a great job and it was way cool to see someone we have met on the show! More importantly, great advertisement for Ziggys!!!! See you in January!

Just watched the Ziggy's episode on HHI. What a nice couple. Can't wait to go to Ziggy's on our next trip. I thought STX was shown beautifully. Noah, I'll have to Tivo the show the next time it's on and put a face to the name.... I just noticed the beautiful girl waving from the beautiful boat... sorry. I'm in a hotel right now and found the show completely by surprise.
