Increase in WAPA fees approved!
That link provided above lets all of us know that the LEAC is going up by 8 cents per KWH.... Sadness.... businesses will have to fold soon....unemployment, less services for islanders, more expensive foods and hosehold items, more crime (since less jobs), and a horrible domino effect continues. More solar and wind energy incentives and rebates needed!!!
Any community based people organizing to figure out some solutions? PM me...I'd be interested in joining...
While electricity will now be around $0.50 per kwh what choice do we have in the short trem but to pay it? The solutions all cost money so where is WAPA going to get the money to invest in new technology? The VI government has over spent its income for years and is deeply in debt.
The first step is this fall is for us to elect some senators with a long term vision of how to solve the problem and will dedicate themselves to making it happen.
Dedicate your efforts to getting some senators elected who will do more than collect their $85K pay check.
This morning's Avis said "..another 19% for residential customers". That suggests that business rates won't be going up but I could be wrong. My wife and I can stomach the residential increase but if the business rate goes up, we will be forced to either reduce hours for about half a dozen employees or raise prices. Neither one is an attractive option.
Sugarlander hit the nail on the head! We can't keep losing businesses. We're already so hard hit when it comes to developing infrastructure for each of the islands that not only serves the tourists, but especially the island population itself! Lower power, less government red tape= more businesses willing to come=lower food prices=more jobs....the reverse domino effect of what WAPA and the PSC is doing now.
Don't get me wrong, I know the reasons they must do this, however, they should have sold that heap of junk and let a private company run it a long time ago. i put my solar and winstream tower on order this morning...
Okay playing devils advocate if the residental goes up less customers are going to have money to spend on said businesses. I think it should be across the board.
Frankly we are going out much much less then normal and not spending money really anywhere but necessities. Scared about what each bill is going to be.
And then there's the age old "pay more for less" when I got back home to STX from a weekend in PuertoRico (frosty AC!!) to yet ANOTHER power outage and no air and sweating off the extra weight I'd put on from all that PR food....thanks WAPA. I was glad it came back on and it wasn't Hovensa...eeeks! Also found out that the restaurant where I work has had to stop our employee meals ($8.00 a shift meal with restrictions). We all agree it has to be done in order to keep our jobs, but our WAPA bill went UP!!! $2000.00 more! Again...thanks! Now let's just pay more, and then more...for what? Anywhere else going thru this nonsense for electricity in the US? I'm just sick of it, but what to do?
Ditto the above points.
