After the Chief Justice was nominated for the Territorial Court bench, this was adelbert bryan's response:

Of his subsequent refusal to vote for Hodge, Bryan said: "I have a conviction; this is my home. I believe in entitlement (of native Virgin Islanders), . . . and I know there are better qualified native Virgin Islanders for the job."

Now I could never support such an unamerican ideology as that, even in his battle with chucky, it begs the question as to why he has soo much angst against her.

Bert's history here of racism, bigotry, irrationality and contempt for the law is legendary - of the worst kind. He threatens and bullies to get his way. Chucky's ties to the Hispanic community and her big mouth which threatens to smother even his is cause enough for him to have it in for her. He went to Ghana once many years ago all bedecked in his dashiki and was asked to leave the country after delivering a bunch of his usual fiery rhetoric to the "brothers" he wrongly assumed were of his ilk ...

Chucky was born in Puerto Rico, so she is not a native Virgin Islander, which is why Bert Bryan is against her. He's against anyone who is from somewhere else.

This link shows her birthplace and her age! (which she chose not to divulge in her Q+A in today's Avis.

DeJongh pardons Chucky

Isn't this all the more reason to encourage more continentals to relocate to the islands rather than discouraging them as is often the case on this board. Maybe someone should convince a few native Virgin Islanders especially the politicians to move to the mainland and seek all of the opportunities associated with living on the mainland. 🙂

Bert's beef isn't with Chucky, it's with the status quo.

Chucky's issue should have been handled years ago by the BOE, but they pushed it aside. Even when citizens came forward to dispute her validity of candidate, the Board pushed it aside.

They tried to push it aside again, but this time they lost control. They deliberately ignored Bert's written request to hear arguments, and they thought that sticking together was going to make it go away. Wrong. Bert, in his capacity as Chairman, then had the legal right to take them to court. They effed-up pretty bad too--now the door has been open for Bert to take them to court for the previous years of ignoring the laws.

You may not like Bert, but he is the only one right now who has the ability to demolish the whole corrupt Board on STX, and possibly a good portion of it on STT/STJ as well.

I always thought it would be a cold day in hell before I agreed with or approved of anything Bert Bryan would ever do. That day came.

Hate to break it to you, but Bert is absolutely doing this because he has beef with Chucky. This is not a "for the greater good" situation. It's personal, plain and simple.

The way I understand it is that when Bert was a sitting senator, he and Chucky had a major disagreement to the point where she told her constituents not to vote for him. Since she has controlled the majority of the voting population for years, he hadn't been able to get re-elected and has been pissed off about it ever since. Pursuing this lawsuit is his only means of getting back at her. This is why he has pushed it so far. It is absolutely a personal vendetta.

This is also why other senators have a tendency to treat Chucky with kid gloves in many regards. They understand that if crossed, she can effectively black ball them in the next election, which is a risk that most of the senators seeking re-election aren't willing to take. You have to understand that she is politically like a one woman Super-PAC here, and how that all ties in to local politics.

All the more reason for her not to be a sitting senator
Hope she gets her a@@ handed to her and the door closes on this reign of chucky. It's like a never-ending nightmare.

Personal reasons or not it was way overdue and Bert, being the bully he is in his own rights, was the one that could take her on.

I say put them in a ring together, no holds barred!
I'd pay to see that and I'm not into fights.
Meeson! Let's see who could give some good licks.
Blamm, blamm, blamm!

The new rule is that a write in candidates name must be spelled exactly correct, so, then something like alicea hansen or alicia hanson, would not be counted. Every state in the United States allows deviations, so long as the voters intent can be ascertained. Here, many voters will go back to the pre-civil rights era where a literacy test or poll tax was required of voters.

I won't be voting for Chucky, but I think Bert Bryan should be stopped from eroding the value of the voting system to carry out his vendetta against chucky.

Watch - I'm sure Chucky's supporters will be handing out slips of paper with her name on them, at the polling sites, to ensure that her name is spelled correctly.

Sadly, it looks like Teflon Chucky will win.

Hops,

Better yet, ask for a whole stack of them saying you'll hand them out, but then stick them into the 'target' area of urinals across the island!

He can say what he want, but the LAW allows a sticker to be used.
