A friend had her jury duty canceled. They called 10:30 p.m. Is rumored turmoil affecting court cases?

They can cancel for any number of reasons.

Yes, I know that, but have cancellations increased? Is the DOJ now understaffed?

The above article may answer your question.
I know of Doug Sprotte and he's a good guy.
It's an insult to move him from criminal prosecution.

Beware of Mapp!
He's waited a long time to become Governor and looks like he's planning to rule with a vengeance. After all, he learned from Monarch Schneider.

It doesn't answer the question, because the media doesn't look like it's asked the question as to how the courts may be affected.

Well then call the court and ask them.

Like they'll admit there's a problem.

There's been a huge backlog at the court for months now which has been further exacerbated by judges retiring and new judges coming on board. Just in the last couple of months they were asking the public to complete questionnaires related to their services, allegedly to better improve them. If they'd sent one to every box holder I would have been more than happy to respond but I don't hang around the court!

I filled out one of those surveys after a hearing. I got the impression that they wanted to survey people who were using the services during the survey.

They were supposed to streamline the probate issues in the courts and it's still taking forever according to a discussion I recently had with a Real Estate Attorney.

Create a Trust as your surviving family will go thru years and hell,
if you die without one and all assets are frozen until your estate gets settled. YEARS!

Exactly - you happened to be there for a hearing. Many people have cases languishing and have a very strong interest in seeing them move but unless they made a special trip to the courthouse to pick up a questionnaire they were out of luck having their opinions heard.

Funny thing....the visource link I posted above to the article regarding the DOJ and Doug Sprotte's resignation after being reassigned to Family Court after his years of service as a criminal prosecutor has been removed from their website.

Hmmmm! Haven't seen that happen before!

Is news now being censored? Makes you wonder!

Another resignation so they rewrote the article to include both.

Yes, I see the article changed to reflect yet another attorney resigned from DOJ and article is back up. Total of 3, now.

There's your answer. All those attorneys had cases which now have to be reassigned to new attorneys and they have to familiarize themselves with cases pending so it is causing delays with jury selections.

They're dropping like flies at DOJ.
First Soroya, now 3 more resignations.

How true. Sprotte was no friend of Schneider (Mapp's illustrious mentor) and transferring him to a division in which he has no background was a calculated kick in the arse pay-back move designed to force his resignation.

Wait for the wasteful cavalcade of official vehicles and motorcycle police accompanying Mapp's every cross-island trip to the most insignificant appointment. The prodigy learned well.

We had or observed some actions with/of Mapp when he was LtGov, and he was arrogant to the extreme. In one situation, we were embarrassed to have people know we also were from the VI.
I imagine he will be even more obnoxious now.

Very wise advice, Alana. After seeing probate cases languish for years, that's precisely what I did.
