Mapp is going all out with his campaign. He mailed out cards advertising how many hundreds of government workers he plans to employ, if he gets elected. That's wonderful (not) when the VI government already has a $100 million dollar budget deficit.
Good way to buy votes. Just wondering how he expects to pay for them all without imposing more taxes on us.

I cringe at the thought of having him as our governor. He may make Dejongh look good.

I, for one, cannot wait until elections (come what may) are over and the dust settles. I am so over all the bs.

Of course, we can then look forward to all our senators lame duck bills.

On the Meet the Candidates Channel 12 debate on PBS he claimed that he will be able to hire all these new workers by restructuring gov't debt. Kinda like debt consolidation. .

But if it was so easy to do, wouldn't it have been done already?

I don't think he'll win.

Debt consolidation is also one of Nelson's plans.

Coffelt/Canegata is the only ticket that provides some real change.

But whatever your affiliation please vote - down here it really counts!

(Assuming of course that HAL has been programmed correctly, and the election workers entrusted with your ballot don't just decide to toss it.)

Mapp has VERY strong support, and constantly places ahead in the polls. There is a very good chance he will win. Very good.

My nicknames for Mapp are "Mapp Van Winkle" and Kennochio. Mapp Van Winkle because he wakes up every 4 years to run for office, and Kennochio because almost every time he moves his lips he's lying, yet he is a very persuasive speaker. Very persuasive.

If Diase doesn't win, Mapp probably will.

I hope Diase wins.

We need fresh thinkers who aren't members of the inner circle of corruption.

Yes, like voting themselves another salary increase and getting it signed by another lame-duck governor. 6905 revisited? Passed on by the senate Dec 28 and immediately signed by the governor without public debate.

How about this? Was this a conflict of interest?

Kenneth Mapp, beginning while lieutenant governor in the Schneider administration, was sent some $25,000 a month in "training payments" from an off-island company owned by Innovative Communication Corp., according to the sworn testimony of three witnesses.

If you want corruption to continue, vote donna Christiansen and Basil Ottley.

Canegata has had brilliant performance in the forums. Can think on his feet. A great complement for Diase a coffelt. I trust her energy and honesty.

I wholeheartedly agree!
Unfortunately, if you have seen most of the straw polls taken at various schools and UVI, they are not even on the radar!
I'll be voting for them, anyway.

"Mapp van Winkle and Kennocchio"
Very good, ms411.
Had to laugh tho so true!

the risk would be that ken mapp gets into office. i think coffelt/canegata are the best team, but fear voting for them, would give ken mapp a chance at gaining 50% or more of the vote.

I've heard that and it's pretty sad not to vote for who you want because of the fear of him getting in.

Sometimes you have to sacrifice what you want to prevent the worst possible scenario which would be Mapp, imo. We'd have a toll booth as governor.

I have a felling that if everyone who is afraid to vote for Coffelt/ Canegata did vote for them, they just might get elected.

St X, the long time locals HATE Diase and they way outnumber the people who may want to vote for Diase. I can't substantiate what I've heard so I don't want to post rumors online, but from what I've heard they didn't like rulings she made when she was a judge.

Mapp is a more educated version of Chucky, IMO, (note the promise of jobs) and is a masterful politician. He has an excellent chance of winning based on all the polls.

Mapp is a more educated version of Chucky ...

Not the most stellar point since Chucky obtained her "degree" via mail order.

The UVI poll was last month and the recent forums are changing things rapidly. Canegata performs so well in Stx and he is well known. Everyone knows their names now and are impressed with their anti-corruption stance. Last month few people had heard of them.

Regarding a run off, a vote for Coffelt-Canegata is still a vote against Mapp, which would either have him lose outright or force him into a run off with Christensen.

I think Mapp is the perfect choice for Governor. He's been pushed aside by this administration and all it's cronies since 2008, and he's likely got quite a few scores to settle. He'll get in there and kick their butts out of their needless jobs, dig into and expose their fowl play over the past four years, get rid of the lying and deceiving OMB, put all the DLCA cops on VIPD if they want to carry a gun, hire someone who knows their ass from their elbow unlike Hodge, make VIWMA pick up trash which now they don't feel it's their responsibility, replace gvi workers with crappy attitudes towards the people they serve, finish the ball stadium in F'sted that got halted on deJongh's watch, and the list goes on. If you truly believe that Mapp would shell out money for 500 jobs without eliminating or firing 500 current jobs, then I'd have to say that you just aren't paying close attention to the details.

Diase could have been a contender, until she stated that she would oppose gay marriage--that isn't HER choice.

Barnes would be shouting at us all the time, and Lord knows we've had enough of that with Chucky.

Donna? Really?? What for? 18 years as a delegate and still so many basic needs not met.

So what if Diase opposes gay marriage? It's not up to her anyway. It's up to the courts to decide. Or a Legislature to over-rule.

It's sad when a candidate that can truly make a change is overlooked on an issue that has no bearing on the health and recovery of the VI.

Did you ask Mapp where he stands on abortion?

Diase just might win, if most St Thomanians vote for her, because STX will be split between Christensen and Mapp.

The majority of our west Indian population does not want gay marriage, regardless of what you or I may think, want or wish.
You have seen the resistance by the various and varied religious groups, churches and leaders. This is not a liberal minded population.
Some may tolerate it but they're not going to vote for it.

Personally I don't care what Coffelt' s personal attitude is toward gay marriage when there are so many other issues that need resolution, now. Paramount among them is the widespread corruption and waste. I am impressed with her abilities as well as her team mate, Canagata. I think they could kick some butt.

Mapp is not squeaky clean and I have to question his standards of ethics. He's got quite a few skeletons hanging in the closet, himself. Having him a governor would be akin to having the Fox guard the hen house. That's why he keeps losing.

As far as Donna goes, all I can say is that between her and Mapp,
I perceive her to be the lesser of evils. Not that I'll vote for her.

Her (Donna) followers were out today blaring her rhetoric in a long car train whooping and hollering and tying up traffic. Think I heard her say something about being instrumental in getting jfl accredited.
Ye gads!

No way will Diase get 50% of the vote unless she's the only candidate. Mona Barnes is gaining considerable strength. Remember there are 5 in the race.
