Does anyone know what the fees are for a late registration for a car?

I believe it depends on how late you are. It's usually in the range of $10-20.

You may need to get a $5 moving permit to drive to BMV.
I've done it both ways if I've been unintentionally late.
Sometimes they ask for it, sometimes they don't.

Good point - I would DEFINITELY get that as all you need is to get pulled over and get a whopping ticket while en route. The permit's now $7 - or was 6 months ago - and is only valid for the day you ask them to date it.

If you are late because you were off island they will have you sign ( you need it notarized) and then no fee. But the monthly late charges are not bad.

All you need to avoid late fees is a notarized affidavit stating that the vehicle was not mechanically sound and was being repaired. You don't even need a bill for the repairs. I've used this strategy and it works every time.

It's easy to do the right thing as opposed being dishonest.

It's also easy to extort drivers only for extra money for a party you may not attend or care about. ($10 plate extortion)

As I see it, whats good for the goose etc.

That was rescinded.

I really would like to see that signed somewhere so I can take it to BMV. Last I heard / watched is it was to be "reconsidered" and has not seen light of day yet.

You'll still be paying for new plates when you re-register your vehicle, as happens every 10 years or so, but the additional $10 fee added on to that will not now be included as Myron Jackson said he would withdraw it. Until the withdrawal goes into effect (and it may have done so already) anyone who was charged the additional $10 will have it refunded.
