LED street lights and solar panels

Talked to the crew installing the LED street lights and solar panels. They informed me that the solar panels are NOT for powering the lights. They are grid tied.
So basically WAPA has contracted these guys to install a "Solar Farm" on misc. power poles....... Should be interesting after a storm....

It makes sense now since I paid attention. No battery box and not all LED lights have a panel.
On the boardwalk they have smaller panels and a battery box for each light.

These new panels look full size. Must have a micro-invertor on each one.

I'd much rather see the grid tied (and functional) lights.

Need to maintain the batteries is all........

wasn't even a year before half weren't lighting at night... I doubt it was a charge controller issue, but maybe.

Probably batteries. Probably standard sealed lead acid, the cheapest. I get about 2 years on one in the UPS and then they need to be replaced. And the UPS is not drawing down the batteries every day like the lights.
