Hello,

I've heard about a festival called Mardi Croix that takes place on the north shore of Stx in February. What's it like? Would you recommend it?

Thanks *-)

I personally have never been, but pictures show it to be a good time!
St Pattys Parade, that one I know for fact is crazy fun. Then again, we like to have fun here & since many of us are full timers by choice, we try to blend in our culture/back grounds with the island's. Result is generally loads of fun for everyone. Plus it's a good way to meet people. 🙂

Mardi Croix is on Saturday, Feb. 21st. I believe there is a parade that starts in LaVallee and ends at Cane Bay.

Maynard,
Good day!
When in Feb are you arriving? We also have a festival called Jump UP, Firiday 2-13-09.
The shops in town (Christiansted) stay open late with special bargins, Moko Jumbies dance in the streets, live bands, food , fun & drink!
Plus the day prior is Art Thursday (2-12-09) in C'sted. Shops that have artistic and locally made items are open late. It's a good way to check out our very talented folks here, our shops & preshop for Jump Up! Oh and it's another great way to meet people or catch up with friends!!
I hope no matter when you arrive, you enjoy our islands and take home many great memories!

Mardi Croix is a very relaxed fun day and night. (Though I have never quite survived into the night). It is a time you can chat with your friends and meet a few new ones. It does not have the "energy" of a jump up, but is more fun in some ways, because it is really not for the tourists.

We're arriving on Feb. 18th and leaving on Feb. 23rd - we timed it to make Mardi Croix. We're glad to hear that it isn't necessarily a touristy event because we like to try to 'blend in'. LOL - at least we try. This is our second trip to St. Croix and we are entertaining the thought of moving there at some point in the future. It is a wonderful place!

(tu)Thank you to islandtyme, terry, and Ms Information for the posts! Every bit of information about life on the island is very helpful.

This year's Mardi Croix Parade starts at Cane Bay and ends at Sylvie's in LaValle. It is on February 21st. The Krewe de Croix also sponsors the Krewe de Barkus dog parade in Christiansted on February 7th. Lots of fun for all the family!

Anyone have any idea at what time the parade and or the party will be over. I have a guest coming in at 2:30Pm and am wondering if it will be over in time to pick him up or if I will have him take a taxi over the Beast into Cane Bay and meet me there.

Some people stay late into the afternoon and I recall at least a couple years that Lobster Reef brought in a Zydeco Band and had a big BBQ pit area and everyone danced until after midnight. I don't know if they have that planned this year or not. It is difficult to get in or out of the north shore long after the parade ends.
