You only want positive, but not the truth.

Good luck.

CruzanIron, everyone keeps saying that but it's not really a fair statement. These boards harp on the negative and rarely talk about the positive. Both sides need to be told. Speaking from the point of view of someone who just moved here and relied on this board for information I almost cancel my trip based on how bad the islands are portrayed here. Thankfully I made my PMV as recommended and found way more good than bad for me atleast. Keep telling the bad because it's important to know but feel free to share the good that keeps you here as well.

any time people tell the truth they get bashed for only harping on the negative. obviously there is positive-just look outside. good grief. but people ask questions and those questions are answered.

Speedy1 The OP asked for positive stories and is getting mocked for it. Are there really no positive stories to tell? Is the only truth negative.

As always, damned if you do and damned if you don't. Talk about the positives and you're accused of wearing rose colored spectacles, talk about the negatives and you're accused of being a doomsayer. Weary of being stomped on, one simply ends up primarily answering specific general questions since everything else is subjective anyway.

I've had plenty of opportunities to leave but am still here 30 years later and it's my home, for better and for worse.

No apology necessary at all - just offering a possible explanation. 😀

rnblade-there are plenty of positives posted, maybe you only focused on the negative and ignored the rest. most of your posts have been kind of berating to the posters who do post.

ot you are correct.

There are positives and negatives for ALL you do in life. You get to choose what you want to focus on. Thats the beauty of life. Free will, your choice. Like I posted previously I was looking for a balanced perspective because there seemed in my opinion that there was quit a few negative stories or experiences. You create your own reality and draw to you what you focus on the most. I am focusing on the positive right now. It doesnt mean Im ignoring the truth. The truth can be one way for one person and the truth can be a total opposite for the other

We used International Logistics that advertises on this site to handle our move. We did a 40' container. They brought it to our house and we had 4 hours to load it up. We put a small amount of household goods and 2 vehicles inside the container also loaded with goods. They trucked it to the port in Jacksonville, FL and put it on the ship from there.

.

TommySTX,

If you don't mind would you tell me the cost to move the 40ft container?. Did you handle all things necessary to get the vehicles legal once they arrived or did the shipping company handle it? Just curious, I am thinking of doing the same thing, 40ft container with two vehicles + some household goods. Any advice you could give regarding it would be appreciated.

Crosscr,

To move the container from Pittsburgh to STX was $6750 if I remember correctly. Maybe a little less but somewhere near there for sure.

We handled getting the cars registered and taxes and everything paid ourselves when we got here. There should be plenty of threads on the boards about this. Basically go to the tax office to pay the one time road tax fee for both vehicles. I had to pay a tax on the value of one vehicle to the customs office because it wasn't made in the USA. Then get the vehicles to the DMV for inspection and plates.

There was another charge of a couple hundred dollars to move the HHG's from the port to our new home.

JEZZIKA, I moved to STX 2 1/2 yrs. ago. Eventually brought my: wife, son, a dog, 2 cats, a 20' container & a jeep! You (or anyone else) can P.M. me and I'll give you my number. I would love to tell my story, but hate typing! Been a positive learning experience! Good luck and hope (you make) all your dreams come true. My advice in short: Life is short, Don't wait, live your dreams!
Matt.
