Hi everyone!
My friend and I are considering moving to the islands next summer ... I was wondering if it is necessary to bring a vehicle and also what are the safest areas to live and to work in STJ or STT... We have money saved and the next year to still save for the move while we look for jobs there.. I'll also be bringing my dog.. We are two females in our twenties ..Thanks!

Bring your car. Foreign made cars will have a US Custom's duty.
Check airline regs about flying with pets during summer months as they don't fly them in cargo usually between May - October.
If dog is small enough to fit in carrier on board, you're good to go, if not, they don't fly pets in cargo during the summer due to heat in cargo.
Harder to find jobs in summer as off season but more rentals available in STJ/STT. Where you work will dictate choice of locations to live for commuting.

Read ALL the excellent general information in the pull-down menus top of this page from "USVI" on the left to "Forum" on the right. Reading the forum threads will provide you with a ton more information.
Monogram - you should know by now after contributing to this forum for a while that finding a job before moving here is virtually impossible.

Oh yea lol I know we are just trying to figure out a safer area to live and then go from there! I just figured out that the forums have classified areas and everything else! Thanks!

Exchelle: You will probably want to know where you are working before you pick where you want to live. Neighborhoods are different here. You will want to get out and look for yourselves.
To monogram's credit, there ARE jobs one can line up ahead of time. Nursing and teaching are two I can think of quickly. If you are going to be transient restaurant workers, you will need to be on island.

Yep. Nursing, teaching, medicine, dentistry, banking, University jobs, law, federal gigs, Information Technology, etc. The statement that "finding a job before moving here is virtually impossible" is ridiculous. Moving here (or anywhere, really) without a job seems crazy unless you want to be a server or flagger or something.

No, it's not ridiculous at all. It's perfectly understandable, has been discussed here many, many times over the years and widely attested to by hundreds who have no special qualifications and have sent in countless resumés from off island with no response at all from local employers. Thousands of people every year dream of living and working here but local employers simply don't bother to acknowledge such overtures since most of the dreamers (a) never make it here and (b) many leave after a short time. It's just a fact, not ridiculous at all.
