Hey everyone!

I am very excited to announce I will be where (most of) you are very soon. As it is so soon, I would like to familiarize myself a little bit on this website. My sister and two cousins have lived there for several months and are loving it, so I decided to book a flight myself. I am a little nervous about a few things, but I know it will be a great experience. Anything from a narrative about your fist times on the island to job offers would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you and looking forward to talking with you soon,
Amber

Hi Amber!
I moved to STX just over a month ago and I love it. I was really nervous too but it has been an easy transition. People are nice & the sights are beautiful. Plus, already knowing people here will make it that much easier. Still haven't found a job yet but quite honest I probably could be trying a bit harder. It's so hard when the beach calls everyday 🙂 I really hope you have a great experience.
Also, this forum is a great place to ask questions and hear what people are talking about. It's a great resource!
Good luck!
Kate

Hi Amber! You'll be arriving right around the time I do--I'll be moving 1/5. Any idea what you'll be doing when you get there?
I'm lucky not to have to have a job just yet, since I'll be in school full time, but god knows I'd be happy to pick something up part time...even if it was just reading tarot cards from my dorm room. :p

Hey! Yes that is the same day I fly in. Ha--maybe I will see you on the plane? Are you going to be attending UVI? I will be in school as well, part time and online. I am enrolled full time at Saint Paul College in Minnesota but I wouldnt want to stress myself out down there... 😎 you know I need time for the beach. What bings you there? I got news of a job today, and I could not be happier. I hope you find one soon- maybe a student worker job?

Hey Amber and Steph, My GF and I will be arriving on the 5th also, busy day on the planes i guess. We are opening a thrift store on STX. We may need some part-time help starting a couple of weeks later. It's real hard to find a job before you get on the island, most ppl won't hire you till they see you face to face. But good luck. Maybe we will see ya on the plane too.

That will be a crowded plane! LOL

I'm going to be majoring in business administration at UVI, which is going to be a lot harder than it has been here (transferring from community college) with the beach right there!

BP, where is your thrift shop going to be? Broke college student that I am, I might need to come check it out. 🙂

Well it is very nice to see so many people! Where will you all be living? I will be In Christiansted I think. I don't know where exactly. I actually got a job, thanks to my sister. A store in her building was seeking someone, so I am all set. I can not wait to live there. My visit is temporary- five months. How about all of you? Permanent?

Yeah a permanent move for us. It wil be my second time on the island. Our store will be in C'sted and we are looking at a condo up in Peters rest for now, but still haven't signed the lease yet. There are some apts. on queen st in C'sted that i lived in before that are OK. Not luxury but ok for island life I guess. They have them listed in the Avis and thats all. It's 600 a month with everything included. Like I said a lil rough around the edges but close to boardwalk and safe. Mostly just broke college kids there. lol

Hi everyone,

I am also going to be coming to St.Croix for a student exchange program.
It will be my first time away from home and I don't know anyone there at all... but still I am very excited!!

I am coming from Saskatchewan, Canada.

Any advice on what to expect?
Places to see and places to stay away from?

🙂

Due to a few complications I will be arriving a bit late for the beginning of the semester.
I fly into St.Croix on January 11th. I am staying in the residence right on campus.
I will be staying for about 4 months.

I am really looking forward to living on the island.
It is also very exciting that many of you are moving to the island at the same time as me.
Maybe we will all run into eachother at some point. 🙂

Amber and Lance: We're within a month of it now! 😀

Getting close to the wire, but I still have SO much to get done first...these next few weeks are going to be insane for me. What about you guys? Are you packed and ready, or like me, still running around like crazy to try to get everything ready?

I am a little late on posting, but I haven't checked the site in a while (too much fun things going on). My husband and I moved last month (permanent) and are loving it. We stayed with Juanita at Casita Properties and did a month to month stay so that we could look around at other places. It was a little pricey but worth it because we found a place that is amazing. We brought our two little dogs so our move was a little different than most of ya'lls will be. Very stressful flying with dogs.

For you newcomers let me say a few things. The island has many good things and many bad things. There are people who can not look past the bad things and will have very negative things to say about the island. Then there are people who love it here and agree that every place has bad places and cons of living there. These are the people you need to hang out with to enjoy your stay here. Otherwise you will want to leave as soon as possible. The crime is high but you should be able to avoid it if you are smart and do things people recommend ( there are places not to go).

Our place is very safe and has an amazing view so we are very happy. My husband works for the hospital and likes it. They are of course different from large hospitals in the state but a new nurse/doctor shouldn't expect the hospitals to be similar. The locals here are very nice as long as you are nice and say hello. It is not like New York here. You say "good morning" "good afternoon" and "good night" here. The island seems large when you get here because it is spaced out nicely but you will run into people all the time. We like the small town feeling.

An advice that I would give is to set up skype so that you can talk to family face to face. This will help you not feel homesick and get "rock fever" like some do. And skype is free!

If you have questions when you get here or need help finding a place I can try to help. Just shoot me an email at thwolf24@gmail.com. Good luck!

To all the UVI students, a strong group of us play Ultimate Frisbee on Monday's and Thursday's around 4-430 til dark. It's a lot of running but a lot of fun.

Well guys we have been postponed a couple of weeks too. My GF is gonna have sinus surgery on Jan 13th. She has been having bad nose bleeds for the last few weeks and finally went to the doc. and she has a blood vessel that has blown out I guess. But she will have to recover for a week or so before we leave. It may be the end of January before we get on island. We have all our shipping arranged and all that stuff. I am considering coming on down on my own to get set up and start on the store while she recovers. If I wait on her I will just be pacing around and getting on her nerves anyway. So we will make our decision this week... hopefully she will let me come as scheduled!
I'm not a very good nurse maid... at all!
Has everyone found an apartment?
I'm all packed and ready to go. One more moving sale and I'm traveling light! 🙂
