Moving to St John.

If you check out the St John Spice website, they list the annual summer closings of bars/restaurants which will give you an idea of what's open and what's closed during your planned visit. Of all three main islands, St John has the most closings, mostly in September. Better to get your foot in the door for a bartending position before they close and be ready when they re-open.

If you're planning on working IT when here I don't know what opportunities you might have on St John unless you plan on working remotely - St Thomas would be the better option.

I'm going to check out Cruz Bay first week or second week of September and see if there's any opportunity when they re-open like you said.

I want to take a break from the IT world for a little bit as I'm considering switching careers. I came to realize that the 9-5 lifestyle behind a cubicle is not for me, I'm a happier person pouring drinks and socializing with bar-goers whether they're local or tourist.

There won't be much for jobs in September, better in October, and November there should be plenty. High Tide and Longboard always seem to be hiring, and hiring newbies too. I'm pretty sure High Tide will remain open, less maybe a week for a deep clean. September is going to be quiet, but a great time to meet people and network as well as find a place to live (which can be hard during high season). Networking is going to land you the best apartment, the best job, so when you get here, get out there and start meeting people (which is really easy to do here). The list on St. John Spice with the restaurant closings will be updated to reflect changes when Ruth hears from people. She does a great job with that.

I'm planning a pre visit move in September to check out the area and hopefully talk to some of the restaurant/bar owners/managers in order to apply for a job.

The menu at both restaurants looks amazing, I would definitely work at either or even both depending on scheduling. I already bookmarked St John Spice which I will be checking regularly for updates.
