If any elected official believes he is within his rights to be a scofflaw he should immediately resign his position or be removed from it. It matters not that Mr. Potter is expected to return to the territory soon to append his signature to the ruling, it's patently clear that Mr James is unfit to hold office and must leave - immediately - with no discussion or further muss and fuss.

Neville wasn't quite enthused about my comment suggesting the same thing, notwithstanding, his personal views.

http://stthomassource.com/content/commentary/editorial/2015/06/28/sen-james-pass-marriage-equality-law-now#comment-6115

I feel even more strongly today that if he cannot follow laws that he has sworn to uphold, "notwithstanding", his personal views, then he should not be allowed to continue as a Senator, muchless as president of that body.

His smug and petulant attitude is especially galling.

I'd read his response which was "unbecoming" to say the least and simply confirnmed what an insufferably boorish oaf he is. 😀

Ironically, Mr. James is in the same position as Governors Orville Faubus and George Wallace who barred the school house doors to black children despite the Supreme Court Ruling, Brown vs. Board of Education.

I guess I'm out of the loop, but where is Potter? How long has he been gone, and when will he return to the Territory?

No mention that I've read, says where is is or reason for being off island. No doubt with First Class accommodations.

Maybe he's shopping for furniture for his new condo digs all paid for by taxpayer money?

Probably personally selecting (along with his personal decorator and assorted other advisors) the new furnishings for his recently acquired St Thomas Mahogany Run "official residence" condo. I doubt the furnishings in his usual St Thomas private residence are at all suitable.

Why the man needs a $2800 rental condo (plus utilities no doubt) and $7000 to furnish said condo when he already has a private home in STT, is truly a slap in the face to the public. This administration plans on reaping lavish rewards for their services as elected officials. Unsurprising, except for the fact they seem to believe they can get away with it with no public outcry.:-X

During his hiatus, Mr Mapp obviously remained oblivious to the leaps and strides of internet/information access and assumed that it would all be "business as usual" based on his own experience under the tutelage of King Schneider. The continued exposure, questioning and, yes, increasing public outcry must be quite an alarming revelation to the poor man.

I hate Mapp like everyone else, but enough with the offensive hyperbole.

How is this hyperbole? Standing behind a bible in defiance of the SCOTUS ruling to deny people equal rights in both instances

The Supreme Court isn't waiting for Osbert to return from whereever he may be, doing whatever it is that he's doing, to allow same sex marriage to begin.

http://stthomassource.com/content/news/local-news/2015/07/13/superior-court-move-forward-same-sex-marriage-licenses

Of course that is no excuse for the Senate President, Nevile James,
to be allowed not to follow the laws that he has taken an oath to uphold. If he cannot perform his job, notwithstanding, then he should resign or be removed.

Oh the utter irony of Mr James being in the forefront of the Lt Gov's housing scandal! You just can't make up this stuff!

Well here's part of the problem:

"When asked, Bennett told Gittens that he got legal advice supporting the decision from then-Acting Attorney General Terri Griffith."
We saw how well she worked out!
Nonsense justification.
Where's Soroya when we need her?

"When asked, Bennett told Gittens that he got legal advice supporting the decision from then-Acting Attorney General Terri Griffith."

Not to mention, "Senators also pressed Bennett on whether or not he had a master's degree in counseling from Liberty University in Virginia. Bennett said he had completed the 60 credits required, but was repeatedly ambiguous when asked if he had the degree. According to the commissioner nominee, he had completed the 60 credit requirement necessary for him to have received a certificate establishing the fact of his degree; however, because he did not participle in a walking ceremony, he has no documentation or certificate on hand showing such degree."

The choice of either sobbing hysterically in frustration or writhing on the floor in paroxysms of uncontrollable laughter is a tough call. 😀

He didn't pay for the degree according to the article so doesn't have it. Liar, liar, pants on fire!

As a dear friend says, "it makes my head want to explode" and this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this administration's spending.

Mapp obviously doesn't need a rental on STT as he spends no time here. He's got first class, luxury accommodations when he travels.
I'd love to see the breakdown of what he's spent on travel
for him and his entourage, including Osbert's since taking office.
(With nothing to show for it, notwithstanding!)

I have a Master's Degree in counseling too based on Mr. Bennett's criteria.

I agree 100% that this man has the right to his opinion.....BUT he is an elected official and has sworn to "uphold and abide by the constitution of the United States of America".
Mr. James you are not above the law!!!!
We have the freedom in this country to put you in office through our voting system and WE the PEOPLE have the right to take you out of office via RECALL!!

Unfortunately, I doubt that a recall will ever happen because it seems the majority of the population of the Virgin Islands is homophobic and against gay marriage and supports his stance.

I've been listening to the radio talk show this morning and the number of callers and their attitudes is quite simply mind boggling. He's simply pandering to his audience.

Read some FB comments that were downright scary. Offering the help Mr. James "round up and kill" homosexuals.

Defiance there was denying little schoolgirls an elementary education. Defiance here means that the signing of the document is delayed a week until Potter will sign it, with no delay whatsoever to same sex marriage (SSM is already legal, with or without Mapp's Executive Order).

As a general rule, it's offensive to invoke other people's struggles to support your own initiatives. My Jewish friends hate when people compare everything under the sun to Nazi Germany, and I similarly dislike when the Civil Rights Movement is compared to the gay marriage lawsuit. It reminds me of the time PETA compared eating chicken to the Civil Rights Movement. See link:

It's a common tactic used by liberals and it needs to stop. Just keep your mouth shut and leave them out of it, out of respect for the people who lived under an all-encompassing apartheid. It really isn't that hard to understand.

So let me get this straight--he lied about his credentials, and then was SENT FORWARD to the whole Senate? Rewarded for employment fraud?

Bennett and the VI Legislature session:
http://virginislandsdailynews.newspaperdirect.com/epaper/iphone/homepage.aspx?#_articlee69cfb84-8005-45cf-b15b-cc9c81d8a2f7/waarticlee69cfb84-8005-45cf-b15b-cc9c81d8a2f7/e69cfb84-8005-45cf-b15b-cc9c81d8a2f7/0/true

He's definitely Mapp's "yes" man.
I am just shaking my head at all of this.

You got it!
Funny how that works, huh?

Moral: Criminal behavior in the VI Government pays well.
