Part time jobs for retirees on St Croix

I'm just in the brainstorming phase because we won't be relocated permanently until November, but I was hoping some of the folks on here can help me brainstorm. I'm not looking for specific opening yet, since I'm not there yet.

I'm looking for part time work in retirement on St Croix. The more fulfilling and fun it is the better. Wages are not as important as something that gets me out & about, driving walking, hiking, photographing, whatever.

I would love to get involved in fulfilling, active work. I'm in reasonably good health for 65, I get around easily. Most importantly, I show up, stay up and work consciously and honestly.

I worked for over 20 years for large companies doing administrative / engineering technician type work for high tech manufacturers. I have advanced skills using office type software, communications skills and management skills. Office work is not my goal though.

I am also an advanced amateur photographer with a portfolio and have done a few jobs professionally. I also drove trucks, school buses and ambulettes for a time. I'm an avid kayaker and also fish (sometimes not too successfully) from my yak. I would try to open a small photography business but I'm not sure if I want that frustration and up front expense at this time of my life.

So, what's out there?  I saw a cool job posted delivering air tank for a dive center, for example. At least that involves getting out & about & meeting people.  I could also shoot photos for one of the local papers and report as well. I would work as a "second shooter" photographer at weddings and such if there are openings. I plan on volunteering as well for something like the botanical gardens for example.

Thanks in advance.

One of the kayak tour companies was looking for a kayak guide recently. I cannot remember which one it was, and I don't see it in the paper now. So check with the kayak places when you get here, as November will be getting into season and they might need someone again.

THAT would be cool and I wouldn't mind learning more about someplace like Salt River Bay in order to show others.

I plan on doing a lot of networking once I get there but getting ideas upfront is great.

OMG if wages are not an issue, in particular volunteer work I can think of more places than I can count to check out starting with the St George garden, checkout NPS tour guide positions and Friends of the St. Croix USVI National Parks, museum docents, maybe even the rum factory tour guides, animal shelter, kayak guide  sounds good, the horse rescue, Healing Paws, R.E.A.L. Cruzan Cats, St. Croix Environmental Association , The Nature Conservancy.

You can't possibly get board.

you can always volunteer at the animal shelter, with the new recycling group, at the home for children or the home for the aged, the womens coalition  or the animal shelter flea market
