I have friends here in Pennsylvania who have been doing the charity Buck Island to Buccaneer Resort swim for years. They will be on island, in STX from November 6th to10th and staying at the Buccaneer. I'm thinking of tagging along to do a brief pre PVM. As nice as the Buccaneer is, it is a little pricey and I'd rather stay somewhere more typical of island living. Anyone comfortable enough to offer up a spare room, spare couch, hammock or tent space or other such accommodations for me to sleep at night? I'd be willing to provide reasonable compensation and references. My friends doing the swim are a Critical Care Physician and his wife is a Critical Care Nurse Practitioner. I'm going to try and convince them to make the move with me. They have expressed interest in the past in moving to STX. I'm A Critical Care Nurse (male) and it sounds like STX could benefit if we all decide to move there. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I've stayed at the Caravelle and the Buccaneer previously.

Have you checked on airbnb.com for accommodations? They are great & you can probably find a place that will suit your needs if someone on here can't help you out.

Look at www.vrbo.com or www.flipkey.com
Those dates are still considered off season by most owners.

Think King Christian Hotel runs $110 per nite not including taxes and
Cottages by the Sea runs $105 for a small room.
Company House Hotel- $80

Good luck.

If you check the "shared lodging" tab of airbnb.com you may find some listings for sofabeds or airbeds that may not be too private, but are likely t have lots of local color.
