Hey all! I've seen a handful of posts regarding moving to the island post hurricanes. I wanted to give a little update/insight from someone who lives on Island (St. John)!

First off, I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to move here in the coming months. Know that the Islands are still recovering & they don't look the same as before. But the progress made has been HUGE. I live on St. John & was here throughout Irma & Maria.

When I moved to the island, I moved sight unseen. However, given the condition of the Islands post Irma, i would strongly recommend visiting prior to moving. It's still beautiful, but there is heavy damage (although, I'm probably just use to it by now- but IMO it's looking pretty good)

I think there's a lot of opportunities that will be coming available in the upcoming months (as far as jobs/careers/new businesses)

The most difficult thing (especially on STJ) will be finding housing. Rental properties were difficult to find prior to the storms- now, with so many being damaged, it will be challenging. Many properties on STJ do have power now, but the majority are without. Once that's restored it will be a game changer!

Overall, the islands are STILL beautiful & a great place to be. Follow me on Instagram @corntocaribbean for more info/updates from St. John!!! 🙂

Isn't that the letter the guy on the bicycle delivers by hand when your rich uncle just died and left you an inheritance?

St Croix is definitely bouncing back to normal as well. Of course we are still only at 48% power restored, debris piles everywhere, sign companies are up to their eyeballs with replacement orders, Kmart East can only afford an "r", lots of blue roofs, many businesses/restaurants closing 1, 2, 3 hours earlier than normal but at least they are open. Everything is green again. Things are getting back to normal.
