Good morning, all,

Is acting governor Potter's press conference that is being held at Government House at noon today (now!) being broadcast somewhere? Radio??

I've been scanning all the local stations and haven't found it so far. Of course that could mean he just didn't bother to show up on time.

Thanks, Jane,

If I find out anything, I will post it...probably just be a lot of hot air...lots of words, no action.

Supposedly, it was to be held at noon.

Of course, Mapp is off island, (big surprise) enjoying festivities in NYC for Labor Day weekend.

Y'all stay safe out there!

His off-island "press conferences" are never disappointing.

I managed to get a little of it before the station interrupted it so the Beloved Felon could do his show. From what I did hear you didn't miss anything.

More empty words. The police are overwhelmed, and are admitting it publicly, though everyone already knows that.

I have seen many people calling for National Guard and Martial Law on social media. So quickly people want to give up their rights in name of safety. No thank you.

I figured I wasn't missing much...thanks, all. And, as Alana said, "stay safe out there"!

And if martial law or National Guard were imposed, there goes our tourism economy. Somebody already used the phrase war zone. Tourists don't go to war zones. It will soon be on national media, and it will be hard for our Tourism Dept to give reassuring assurance about safety, IMO.

Stateside news is preoccupied with Donald a Trump, police killing people, the Fed raising interest rates and that clown hypocrite refusing to issue marriage licenses in KY. Unless a tourist is killed no one cares sadly.

"Stateside news is preoccupied with Donald a Trump"
Donald J. Trump. Don't butcher the name of the next President!

"Unless a tourist is killed no one cares sadly."
Well that's just not true. Jamie Cocaine (STJ) wasn't a tourist, he was here to work at a yacht club. Neither ATF Agent William Clark, nor the guy he killed, Marcus Sukow were tourists. James Malfetti was not a tourist, though U.S. Senators intervened on his behalf.

You don't need to be a tourist to garner nationwide attention if killed. You just need to not be black/brown.

I stand corrected on the brown/black part and wholeheartedly agree. I am actually looking forward to a Trump presidency. It will be "yuge" for comedy points.

Speaking of butchering a name, Cockayne was his surname.

It was completely intentional on my part. Quite the pun if you know the backstory.

Of course I know the story, young wetback. Your attempt at "humor" is misplaced and below low.

Is monogram an illegal alien from Mexico? I thought he/she was a "born and raised Crucian". I'll tell you, the definition of "Crucian" changes so often these days, that my head spins, as Donald Drumpf likes to say.

Just checked my birth certificate--still a native Crucian. Though OldFart insists that I am a "wetb**k" and every other slur in the book.

Haha. Yes, OT is tres amusante. I loved every single epithet thrown in my direction, and it's quite a collection.

Seems I got my slang expressions mixed up as I was harking back to my childhood in the UK when a young and inexperienced "know it all" was commonly referred to as still being "wet behind the ears". Unaccustomed to using racial slurs, I must have heard the term "wetback" somewhere down the line and assumed it meant the same thing. I humbly retract the word and instead substitute, "young and inexperienced one". I've "insisted"upon nothing and wasn't aware that suggesting someone choose their words more carefully could be interpreted as a "slur".

These days, old age is not a virtue. There is a reason that employers don't hire old people for jobs which require brain activity. The intellectual capacity drops precipitously with age. I've worked with hundreds of people in my field (information technology), and you just don't see anyone older than 55. These folks are all Walmart greeters.

Here is an interesting chart:

Here is an interesting chart:

I bit my tongue clear through on this one. My IT work was just as productive when I retired at 58 as it was at 38. In fact, the quality of my work was better at 58. How many patents are you responsible for so far? My first came at 42. But the rest were devised at 56 and 57. The only real problem we older ITers encountered was cleaning up the messes made by the 28's. With age comes experiential insight, and a clearer bigger picture.

BTW, 61 now, and I still get calls to see if I want to come back from former employers about twice a year. I also do analysis projects for one of them every so often, and they are still pleased with my work, even though they know I am doing it with a time crunch, what with getting to my Walmart job, and all.

There are always anecdotal examples of old-age success, but the literature on age and intellectual capacity is pretty well-settled.
