Rowdy,

Ohio must have more competition than denver, we have comcast

I haven't done any research, but besides the usual suspects, Direct TV, and Dish there isn't a whole lot. I can't get AT&T's U-Verse at my location. TWC's price is not bad and, a major surprise is that their service is excellent. If I call because a single channel has an issue, they don't hesitate in giving me a $20 or more discount on my bill for the next month. The few issues I've had get serviced immediately. I am lucky enough to have an office with extended service hours just 2 miles away.

Unfortunately, every time I've had issues in STX, it is like pulling teeth. Luckily, they have been far and few. I remain neutral because I have to deal with the landlord as the middle man. After 6 years I am more than used to life in STX.

I don't know the status, but I swear I've heard that TWC is buying or trying to buy Comcast. One way or the other, it sounds like bad news.

Rowdy,

If there is a buyout or merger of Comcast, it won't be good news. The quality of Comcast is great, customer service not so much. If I have a choice on the islands I'll go with Dish. I have dish on the RV and we've been very happy with them.
It will be another thing to check out for island life. Thanks for the input.

Dish is probably the best choice for television at the moment. My only complaint about Dish is that they charge us the same prices as CONUS for a subset of the channels.

I had Dish for donkey's years but am now very happy with Innovative Cable at WAY less expense.

Thank you, f.I! That really makes me feel better. So glad to hear HBO will soon be available w/o cable! Thank goodness for the internet.

Fyi HBO streaming does not work in the territory unless you hide behind a VPN.

Ot,

isn't innovative a pain for service and paying bills, I thought I'd read that on other posts

It's a long and complicated story which goes back several years when the company was VITELCO (Virgin Islands Telephone Company) and one of the partners (subsequently indicted) bled it dry over the years, shifting money which should have been used for upgrades to his personal coffers. There has been a huge turnaround in the last few years with major improvements in all areas and millions of $$s invested in the new EVO system. However, the past left a sour taste in many people's mouths and the badmouthing continues with every little service glitch magnified out of all proportion.

For that reason and because of issues with their TV service, I always kept my landline (never a problem with that and always prompt and efficient service) but hesitated to use their cable and internet service. I finally went with their internet service after a real debacle with another local provider and have had no problems whatsoever with it; and when my Dish bill kept rising and rising and customer service deteriorated, I found that the Innovative bundle would save me a bundle (!) so switched over completely about a year ago. No problems whatsoever and simple glitches are promptly addressed and taken care of.
