Private Schools on St. Croix

I've read lots on this board about public versus private school, but little on the specific strengths or weaknesses of the different private schools. The web sites for the schools are helpful, as visiting will be, but I'd like to hear from parents about their impressions. Academics are important, of course, but fine arts and music are areas of strong interest too.

As my kids are high school and jr. high ages, I'd also like to hear from relocated families with similarly aged kids about the assimilation/adjustment process.

Thanks.

not a parents, but I consistantly hear that Country Day and Good Hope are the two best private schools.

I have 2 kids at Country Day (3rd grade and 6th grade) and, as of a few weeks ago also work there. To be honest, we never even visited Good Hope because of location and proximity to our rental house. However, we were greeted by wonderfully kind, enthusiastic teachers and administrators at Country Day. I was very impressed with the more "liberal arts" approach to education offered there. Spanish is taught at least once a week as early as Pre-K; multiple times per week as the ages progress. They also have vocal and instrumental music, as well as a great art and computer sciences curriculum. The whole learning experience at Country Day is very cohesive. If the kids are studying mythology in English, then they're also reading those books, learning those spelling words, creating sculptures from that era and putting on a play with authentic food. My kids came from a public school system in a small town in the states, and this learning experience has been wonderful for each of them thus far, in different ways.

I'm also recently familiar with the structure of the senior class setting, so please feel free to PM me with specific questions. If I don't know that answer, I'll be happy to find out for you!

Thanks p-flops! Sounds like a great school.

Anyone with older kids want to chime in?

Daughter at Good Hope and loves it. Visit both and let your kid pick.
