Hey there! I am moving to St Croix next month. I've contacted a few real estate companies and am not getting much of a response. I have two dogs coming with me. Does anyone know how I can find listings for private rentals that would allow pets? Thank you!!

Find a pet friendly AIR B.B. rent for a month and hit the ground, meet people at bars and ask for rentals. That’s how we’ve always done it. Check craigslist but be wary of scammers. It took us a month to find a place in STX. I’m kinda picky though.

You can rule out condos with the dogs. Also, with all the workers coming for the refinery rebuild and startup, you will find very little available. Rental prices have increased dramatically. Hope you have a big budget.

Don’t let the listing not mentioning that pets are allowed totally discourage you...having been a REALTOR myself for nearly 30 yrs, when I first started looking for a long-term rental here on STT, I told my agent to ignore that on the MLS ticket and let’s focus on the property first. This is because many times a landlord will have that put into the listing to discourage certain breeds or sizes of dogs. True to form, when we found the property I wanted to make an offer on, the landlord was willing to consider my individual dog’s size, age, temperment, etc. So, I’m just sayin’, but agreed it’s a lot tougher with a condo and apartment complex than with a stand-alone single family home. Good luck!

You can always offer to increase the damage deposit so the landlord will allow your dogs.

I have a rental on the mainland and will allow dogs if the damage deposit is doubled.

With condos, it's not up to the owner. It's the association rules and by laws.

Not much flexibility with Condos. A few HOAs will allow pets with restrictions, if they do then the owner can work within those restrictions.

My condo compex, Schooner Bay is one of the few that will allow 1 small dog for owners. However the by laws do not alow renters to have a dog. That is what you are up against with condos.

I guess I need a home then my dogs are not small but they're labs so they are smart and gentle breed. Well trained. My rental budget is up to $1500 and I don't need it till December. But I will be down there just myself from end of August through first week in December. So I have some time to look.

Until December I am looking for something short term maybe up to $800 per month. Less if possible. I am working at the hospital so something near there would be good. Any suggestions? The realtors I have spoken to don't have any. Thank you
