My husband and I are coming in March for a PMV. He has a strong possibility of a job offer. I have gotten quotes from Top Of the Line to move our house hold goods and car. I have tried to reach Blue Ocean with no luck. Are there others I should contact also? We will be moving to St Croix at the end of summer if not sooner. We will be renting and looking for a furnished place to start off. My car is Korean so if the bank allows us to bring it it will cost me import fees...I have been following the forum for some time and have researched a lot but after reading the post about Viking I am hoping to avoid any similar problems and get good advice from locals.

Thanks

Here's how we are handling our move. Definitely recommend Crowley to ship.

Last month (Jan 2018) we shipped a container with personal belongings from the Tampa area to STX. We bought the container to use for extra storage on our STX property.

We packed into stackable plastic bins and loaded the container ourselves - but we had a local moving company on speed dial if we needed assistance. We then hired a shipping company to move the container on a flatbed truck from Tampa to the Crowley dock in Miami. Crowley shipped in less than a day and we had our stuff delivered to our home on STX within a week, safe and sound.

We managed the paperwork and logistics ourselves, which seems more intimidating than it actually is. There were a few language issues with our documents since Crowley's logistics staff is Spanish speaking and in El Salvador but nothing major. Just something to keep in mind.

All said, shipping the container door to door cost just under $5,000 (not including the purchase price of the container).

If you have a KIA (Korean Car), it may be assembled in the USA, which exempts you from paying extra fees to customs.

I bought a Ford, but it was assembled in Canada and had to pay the extra customs fees.

Go figure

Thanks for the tip. I will contact them. We are more land locked - moving from the panhandle of Texas. We were considering something similar to pack and transport to the dock ourselves possibly.

Unfortunately not the case ...VIN starts with a K so it was assembled in Korea and it is a 2015. I also owe on it so I am not sure yet if the local bank I financed with will consider letting me take with me.

You definitely need to check on that both on your side and locally here in the VI. I know there can be issues with that sort of stuff......

The USVI is not part of NAFTA but they'll find a way to tax you no matter what.

I used Top of the Line prior to the storms to have a truck shipped down and was pleased with the service and price. I deal with ocean freight a lot for work and can say that across the board shipping and logistics are harder since the storms. Everyone is just a lit busier and more things are being delayed, slipping through the cracks, and are more expensive. So be patient and persistent.

Thank you...they are the only ones to have gotten me a quote for moving so far.
