I found it annoying that they are telling people not to bring coolers. The bar there can never keep up with the demand and if you're not a regular you are going to be waiting 20 minutes. I'd be happy not to bring one but I'm not going to fight a bunch of rowdy drunks to just get a water or coke. All beaches are public and they really have no way to stop anyone.

I wish I was on island for this. And it's my birthday weekend too!

I agree the no cooler is BS. I'd bring a soft collapsible one anyway, or a backpack with some icepacks in it.

If I catch anyone with a cooler or soft cooler/Ice Pack back Pack, I'M going to turn you in, get the reward and keep your confiscated items, can't wait.8-)

It’s a public beach, so they can’t enforce the “no coolers” policy. However, it’s nice to support the cause. There will be plenty of Reef Jam volunteers selling drinks on the beach, so you won’t have to wait at the Rhythms bar (unless you want a special drink).

What's "the cause" for?

Maybe I wouldn't sneak in a cooler if I knew what the benefit was for.

The cause, as stated at http://reefjam.com/ :

"...the biggest celebration of coral reef and the marine environment in the V.I.! Reef Jam is hosting its fourth annual event to 'encourage marine conservation and stewardship through community education and outreach.' "

"All funds raised at the event go back to the St. Croix community in the form of Mini-Grants. “The Reef Jam 2010 Mini-Grant winners will be on hand to show what great things they have been doing for the reef with the money raised last year.” "

Thanks for the info Bob, I'll probably buy my drinks from the bar then.

Looks like a good cause.

Agree great cause! I do my part for the reefs by propagating rare coral species in aquaria an then shipping fragments back to damaged reefs where the species may have been lost. The Caribbean elkhorn coral, Acropora palmata, is a threatened species and a propagation program in the VI would be great! I'd volunteer to help (or get it started).

The Good-to-Go cup is a great idea but man oh man they have a lot of work to do. They're up against a culture that LOVES foam. It's not uncommon to see someone order to go food at a restaurant and then eat at the bar.

In the same vein, restaurants/bars are reluctant to move to biodegradable to go boxes due to cost. Foam is light (cheap freight) and cheap to buy. Everybody is green friendly until they see the price tag and say "Uh, we'll stick with foam".

Not all restaurants, but most.

Does anyone know what all was in the frozen white drink (topped with lime) that Rhythm's was serving in the little orange/white bucket? It was absolutely delicious!
