I am trying to move a few boxes and it would be great to put them in a pickup truck or some such for a quick move. Is there a place that rents something like that on STT anywhere? (Please, no phone book 🙂 )

Not that I know of but you could try asking someone at Home Depot. There are usually a few pickup truck drivers waiting in the parking lot for people that need help (for a small fee, of course). I've used their services for a dozen sheets of drywall and a refrigerator before with no problems.

Watch out for scammers at Home Depot with trucks. They seem nice and helpful loading your stuff in their trucks then loose you on the way home, never to be seen again.

I'd rather rent my own truck but it would be somewhat time consuming - so getting someone with a truck would certainly help. That said the scam does not sound too far fetched - I certainly don't have a good way of selecting an honest person by looking at them 🙂

There used to be "two guys and a truck" advertising in the island trader. Haven't looked lately but it was like $50 an hour and you loaded/unloaded everything.
Or go to Red Hook Plaza and ask for Wilfred. He will do it on his off times.
