Over on the travel board ms411 said there was a new restaurant in the old Herve's space. True?

Have been to Sangria in Ainsley's old space. Pretty good thin crust pizza. The sangria is either too sweet or I don't remember what sangria is supposed to taste like since I haven't had it since the 80s!;)

The Sunset Grill at Secret Harbour (the new fancy restaurant) seems to be getting closer and closer to opening. The patio menu now includes awesome chicken pot pie. Their cole slaw is pretty good too. I still don't understand why they chose a name of an existing restaurant. I think that is going to cause confusion...:S

What is more hilarious is that Marriott didn't trademark the name...jeez. The restaurant that took the place of Herve is called Chez Caribe...it looks like a good menu but I haven't been there yet.

I went by Chez Caribe today to check out the menu, and there were some luscious selections I have to try. Will go back on Monday for Happy Hour and appetizers, and will report back!

Sunset Grill has a way to go, yet, looks like. Im interested to see the menu for the restaurant. I already don't like how pricey they are. Decided to visit and check them out since we've avoided the place while under construction, even though I have to drive past it to leave the house! During happy hour, I spent $14+tip for a lime in the coconut and a dark and coke!! What? Okay, so I expected to pay a lil bit for the frozen drink, those are never happy hour. But the dark and coke? Glad I live less than 5 minutes away. I'll bring my own cocktail to watch the sunset at your beach. Thanks!

While we're on the topic, I noticed several pickup trucks on the sidewalk in front of Napoleon's Pizza in C'Sted this weekend when I drove by. It looked like they were moving out restaurant equipment. Wonder if they're the latest casualty or if they were just moving stuff out for some renovations?

I never saw how they stayed in business in the first place. They are the second or third business in the last 2 years to move in AND out of the spot.

This is such a pain. I can only read on the vacation board. STTResident says that Wikked is boarded up. When we were there the other night, we were led to believe it was a temporary closing. Hmm???

terry: You are talking about the St Croix Stixx, right? Because the St Thomas one was torn down for Yacht Haven Grande.

There's a sign at Wikked that says temporarily closed. It's not really boarded up, but looks that way from a distance. The chairs are on the tables, and the curtains are closed. Maybe they're doing some remodeling?

Okay, on the travel board, "they" are saying Jack's is moving to the Fungi's location? So what about Tillett Gardens?

And what about Wikked?

Inquiring minds and all that...

Why would Jack's move to Fungi's location? We never went to Fungi's because it was sort of a pain...while Tillett Garden was easy.

I think I saw in last week's paper one day that Wikked was For Rent/Lease, but I haven't seen it since. So if someone heard different, they can correct me.

Wikked was evicted for non payment of rent. They are now looking for new operators. They, meaning the management of YHG. Remember the restaurants originally belonged to them and now they lease them out. I don't get Jack's moving either but when I mentioned that to someone that's familiar with it, they mumbled something back. Didn't make sense. Will ask again.

I'll second the big question mark of why Jack's is moving, especially to the obscure location...but on a good note I heard that Latitude 18 is coming back!

With all these restaurant changes I'm getting confused? Can somebody who is really in the know write a list about the changes, please. It will be appreciated and maybe even include if you know if they are under new owners/management.

For example,
Toad and Tart - closed,
Wikked - closed but for rent, etc.
Jacks - closed at Tillets, moving into Fungi's(closed) (???)

Ps. I read the travel board once in awhile, but don't post. Who are the East End Boys??

Yeah, who ARE these East End Boys? To hear some people talk about them, they are The Evil Empire, about to take over the world!

I don't know if there is an answer to this question, but if you Google: Havana Blue, The Cellar/Pesce, Virgin Islands Bobsled team. Senor Pizza (history of), Blue Shore Grill Restaurant Group then Google any names of the principles- Zach Zoller and Eric Horstmeyer come up most frequently, move all the pieces around...and voila!

I don't know if he still reads this, but I was castigated by one of the principals years ago, so maybe he, or one of the other guys will respond. And hey! I go to all your places! 😉

I've known Zach and some of the boys for years. Of course, back then we referred to them as the VI Bobsled Team not the East End Boys. As far as I can tell they are all well mannered and polite young men. Never had a bad encounter with any of them - and hey, if the evil empire is built around good food I am all for it! You go, guys!

Yes, Jack's is moving to to Fungi's location. Soon, next month or January-- forgot the date but it's soon. Sad for Tillett. Hopefully Steve and crew will do well in their new locale. They should have a solid customer base of Point Pleasant residents and visitors. Will certainly be an improvement in food for that location.

Hope someone takes over the restaurant and bar at Tillett... it's a very important business for that little art community.

@VIsnorkeler, the guys that own the new Sunset Grill and Cruzan Beach Bar at Secret Harbor are not the evil empire 🙂 What they're doing is going into places that former restaurant owners have run into the ground like Roberts and Blue Moon and fixing them up, complete remodels and making the quality 1000% better.

I think everyone can agree that Blue Moon was a dump with pretty bad food. I was just by the new place today and it's awesome. Like night and day. Zack and Jeff have done a super job at remaking the place. And as far as pricing goes it's a beach bar with a hotel/timeshare area. Of course it's going to cost more and frankly it should given the cost to remodel the place. If you want a cheap dark and coke head over to Sibs.

As far as Jack's goes the reason Steve is moving is simple, he's tired of being located in the projects. he's been broken into numerous times, has to deal with crack heads, cars were being broken into...the list goes on and on. Fungi's is located on the water and in a much safer location. He's fixing it up as I type. If you like jack's support him by going to the new location 🙂

Northsider: On this one point- Secret Harbour comprises two condominium associations. Some of the owners have agreements with a hotel management company (Crescent) for renting their units short term. The properties are neither hotel nor are they time share property. It is a leased restaurant and bar on condominium common property, not a beach bar with a hotel "area."

And, hello, lots of locals live nearby, including me! Now, I'm gonna have to cart my own beverages to my favorite beach. I liked the option of being able to enjoy a HAPPY HOUR cocktail watching the sunset at "home beach". Perhaps those local cards they are giving out will work there, too. 🙁 It would be great to have a really nice restaurant nearby, though. Have they started their new dinner menu yet? Blue Moon wasn't much better than mediocre. I don't mind paying more, But I would prefer good food if I am.

Don't forget to add the Looney Bien in Freetown to you list of newly opened/reopened locations. It's in the former Margarita Phil's location beside Pie Whole. Looney hour from 3 to 6 two dollar taco's two dollar domestics and four dollar Margarita's. Yes I do know the owners.

At Work St Thomas Source Looney Bien
