Shipping a car to St. Croix

If you can drive the car to Miami it will cost around $1200-2000 to ship it. As for packing it with cloths the answer is no. I asked the same question a few weeks ago and I received a few PMs telling me to call so and so and they will let you. But the unanimous answer I got from everyone was no. Seems we were a year to later. Customs allowed it up until a year ago.

When I shipped a car in January 2007, I drove from Ohio to Port Everglades, Florida (Ft Lauderdale, FL) where Crowley Liner Services is located. Tropical Shipping also ships out of the same general area. If you are shipping the vehicle by itself on a cargo ship, you
cannot leave anything in the car except the owners manual, spare tire, tire jack, etc. Also the gas tank cannot be more than 1/4 full. Finally the vehicle has to be at the shipping port 72 hours prior to sailing. So if you get there less than 72 hrs prior to sailing, your auto/truck will sit there until the next weekly sailing. It takes about 3 days for the boat to sail from SE Florida to St Croix.

Back in Jan 2007, I had to pay on arrival at STX a 1 time road tax fee and a 1 time excise tax and the vehicle must clear customs here. . Both fees on a 3,117# Subaru 4dr wagon cost another $800. Crowley chg'd us $1060 which was about $300 cheaper than Tropical had quoted..

I totally disagree with the comment if "you call the right person" they will let you pack clothing, etc in your vehicle.

Thanks to Homeland Security and related issues caused by 9/11 that's what you have to abide by.

My experience was similar to Jumbie's, though I used Flemming's Transport and was very happy with their service. If you have the extra money, it is absolutely worth it to have the shipping company deal with customs, road tax, registration, etc. Berry Flemming met me at the airport at 8:45pm with my car keys in his hand, ready to go. Even my insurance card was in the car, as I had arranged for the insurance company to communicate with the shipping company and get everything sorted out before I got here.

We are shipping NOW---two cars and a trailer. We are using VI Cargo who we felt confident with the shipping and service they provided----and gave us the best quote. Shop around---we did-----and returned to the first quote which was the best and the company we felt confident with----VI CARGO---who hasn't disappointed us and we patiently await our vehicles.GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think of your vehical as a large cube. Length x Height x width
then multiply that number by 4.25. That will give you a basis
to work with. Then call everyone and get their rates.
