Thanks for the support. One of the Police Officers who interviewed me is also on VINow. He said he knows that I am outspoken on this forum but suggested that I not talk about this incident. Better for their case if fewer details are known to the public.

P.S. For those who asked. Both of our dogs. Big Rambo and Little Speedbump came through this ok as well.

Was a 17 yr old in the YRC program. Going to jail and hopefully will have to remain in jail.

I'm actually kind of curious, do people generally keep their own protection in house, guns specifically? Tasers? Thinking maybe I should bring one of the two with us. Besides be aware, what can people do just as precautions? As a newbie any info would help 🙂

Contact John Canegata at D & J Shooting Gallery 340.713.9058. If you do bring your firearm, you can have them store it for you while you go through the permit process. I would also VERY strongly suggest bringing a firearm safe that bolts to the floor.

It took my husband and I a long time to obtain our permits, perhaps you'll have better luck if you choose to go that route. We had to start the process over because there was a small water stain on our paperwork, then they lost the paperwork, then we took a break from the process for a couple of years because it was so frustrating. Hopefully the process is quicker now, our firearm lived at D&J's for years.*-)

will do thanks. I used to have my cc permit in AZ, years ago for a 45. I would prefer not to have a gun now days, but we've been thinking about that or a taser to take with. I grew up in TX on a ranch and very comfortable with guns... The boyfriend, not so much thou, i would need him to take some training first.

Oh I don't need a CC permit. I did some reading and its all over the board. Looks like tasers are complete illegal? I am going to talk to John at the shooting gallery tomorrow and see whats the best option. I think it may be buy one there if we decide on it simply because the process seems to take some time.

Make sure you get a full power real taser. I have one of the cheep knockoffs, and even though it burns my skin it does not incapacitate me. (yeah I tried it out a few times on myself)

Wasp spray works very well. Always carry in the truck.

I fail to see how the possession of a taser or handgun would have ended well at roto's house against 3 armed burglars.

First line of defense needs to be dogs in a fenced yard, and big ones. Not a guarantee but a deterrent for sure. Easier to find a place with no dogs to hit. But like I said is no sure thing.

Even worse to read these solutions for self defense. It didn't use to be that way.... What has happened to our island paradise. We never locked our doors or worried about being safe...It is a different world today.

do neighborhood watches really work? there is always so much coming and going in our neighborhood with yard workers and construction.

dogs can be shot or poisoned.
