Hi everyone,

I'm looking for any possible leads on midwives and/or doulas who can attend a home birth in the St. Thomas-St. John area (I'm on St. John, as the username might suggest). Dr. Wendy Coram attended the birth of our first child, and while she is an option for the birth of our second child, I'm just doing my due diligence to see if there's anyone else out there. Linda Caiger has said she's not willing to travel to St. John, as she is essentially retired, and neither Fran Jacobson or Veronica O'Brien-Powell can do it due to their obligations with their respective employers.

Thanks!

In your opinion what are the pro's and cons of home birth on STJ?
I know it's popular.

Well I certainly didn't intend to turn this into a debate on home birth vs. hospital birth, but what it comes down to for me is that I am not comfortable with all the interventions I could be subjected to while giving birth in the hospital -- ANY hospital, not just the one on St. Thomas. I will say that I've had many friends give birth at RLS and most have had wonderful experiences. The hospital is just not for me.

Got it. Me neither.
Too bad someone doesn't set up a "birthing center" on STJ.
Could be an opportunity for the right person.....

No kidding! Or just to be a practicing midwife living on St. John, I am certain there would be plenty of business to be had. I wish we had more options here.

sort of related, we just had a wonderful birth experience at JFL on STX.
Plan A was "all natural"
Plan B was epidural
Plan C was c-section....after 44 hours of labor....and back labor....we went with Plan C.

He's a healthy 16 day old....its all good.

From what I’ve heard, delivering babies is the one thing the hospitals in the VI are great at.
