Yes at least you have learned that the people of the VI are always good for a spirited debate!

The topic is worthy of discussion since it pretains to how people in the territory view violence.
VI public v. private education is usually a top concern for families with school aged children.

This is exactly the kind of conversation that belongs on an extended discussion board. How is taking a question asking whether there is corporal punishment in public schools in the VI and turning that into a discussion about the pros and cons of corporal punishment in general any different from asking whether there are any Freethinkers in the VI and then turning that into a discussion on the pros and cons of religion. There is NO difference.

These are both great discussion topics for an extended discussion board. Both are equally inappropriate for this board. 😉

Ohana - corporal punishment happens in Public schools and some private schools. The Public will tell you that only the principal is allowed to do it, but that is not true as you have read. In the Private schools(esp some of the religious schools), it happens at all levels. In the other private schools, corporal punishment does not happen so much as verbal humiliation. Make sure you are involved in your grandson's education. Go sit in on each grade level that he will go into for at least 2 days before deciding on which school to enroll him in. We(and others) went through issues at one of the top private schools here and I would NEVER recommend it to ANYONE.

Violence is the norm. Demile is a way of life. The school's reflect that paradigm of thinking. Many sub-groups in the VI turn a profit from denying the true state of affairs. Admitting a problem exists is bad for business. Until those groups wake-up the problem will continue to grow,

What's a "demile" way of life? You have me flummoxed.

And I don't understand either the comment, "Many sub-groups in the VI turn a profit from denying the true state of affairs."

Forgive me "denial". Thank you for pointing out my spelling error. I am a horrible speller...but we've already reviewed that on other threads.
