Went to eat@canebay this weekend, and the build-your own salad was a great idea, but after I went through marking what I wanted, I guess they didn't have some of the items, so they got substituted, without asking...service was fast, the duck chili was great, but the brisket sandwich was VERY SALTY per my bf. Wouldn't make a return trip. Off The Wall has better food on that end.

Also, had a total horrible experience with Cultured Pelican!!! Didn't know it wasn't the same chef, and boy the food was awful. It looks like it was sold to the same people from Zebo's because I saw the same management as over there. I'll make my Italian at home. It would have been nice to have a small, home-style Italian place on the island. Oh well. Sweet rolls served with bean paste and garlic? Manicotti that fell apart, stuffed with meatballs and a gob of hard cheese on top? Tasteless spinach pasta. Blah. We had to come home and brush our teeth!

I heard that the management/owners from Mahi's are gone...like off island gone. leaving some bills behind...could just be the rumor mills on st. croix going.

I think Chenay Bay is taking the restaurant back over.

I know that the Cultured Pelican has just re-opened, so they probably have some kinks to work out. I will give them a try as i did not care for it the way it was. that "italian" was terrible and over priced. I wonder if they'll still have the Super Thursdays with buy one entree, get the other free??

nforbes: I would be interested in if they ironed out the "kinks" so let me know what you think. They said the grand opening was Nov. 1st. , don't know how long it takes to pass a Cooking 101 class... Also, the bartender kept yelling out score updates from the game on the bar tv to patrons at the table next to us....it was like Sharkey's II.....I did love the Thursdays 2 for 1 at the old Cultured, and also that they had a menu where you could get the petite versions on a majority of things.

Had dinner at the Good Spirits Deli on the east end of STX. BBQ brisket was great. Comes with two side dishes. Others in our group had the ribs and they said the ribs were excellent . Very busy on Wednesday as this was their grand opening. Wine and beer prices very reasonable.

It's a North Carolina thing. We do a vinegar-based "red" slaw that's supposed to go with pork. White slaw is a totally different concept.

I like the red slaw, but that's a Piedmont thing. Down on the coast we like it green.:-) (We need an icon for yummmm.)

Didn't know--every time I've ever been to the NC coast, we've foregone the barbecue in favor of the fish camp (or grilling our own catch).

I'm sure this may have already been answered, but is there somewhere on STX that serves real Mexican food? I've heard some people talk about Luncheria, but considering that the people in my old neighborhood would have spelled it with an O instead of U (Mexican Spanglish turns "lunch" into "lonche"), I'm suspicious.

Just had the ribs from the East End "Good Spirits"... the new bbq place.
Ribs were good, not great. Could have been a bit meatier and flavorful (compared to what I'm used to)
Thought the "full rack" wasn't quite a full as it could be.
Two orders (totaling one and half racks) with sides for $30.
Looking forward to trying them out again (and again).

fwiw: Had the ribs at No Bones rib night last week. They had bones 🙂
Very meaty, but they poured on way too much sauce. Drowned them.

Great food at Good Spirits near the Reef. VERY reasonable- family atmosphere- kids menu but dishes designed for the discerning palate. We had bar b q- smoked on premises and a spinach souffle- Felt like I was back in the South! (Said with at least 2 syllables) Lot's of wine and beer choices. They are just getting opened- I think this week. Not sure of hour but know they are serving dinner. Great no smoking timeshare.= except for the ribs!

Mom and I are planning on going to Duggan's Sun. night for my birthday lobster dinner. We would have gone to our old favorite Lobster Reef, but (weeping!) Friday is Frank's last night. Hopefully Duggan's will be as great as it was last time we went (Mother's Day...Frank at Lobster Reef was off island). Will let you all know! (drooling now):P

Yes, Frank is closing The Lobster Reef Cafe at the current location. Today 10/30 is the last day/night the restaurant/bar will be open for customers.

Frank claims to be pursuing Columbus Cove restauraunt at the Salt River marina. That and the fact that he and his landlord have been butting heads.
Time will tell.

Tried to go to Good Spirits by The Reef for lunch, they're not really open for that yet. They had a pulled pork sandwhich as the special, but i dont eat that. Took a look at their prices - very reasonable. Their bottled wines are pretty competitively priced too. i just had a coke in a glass bottle - the best kind! Will be back to try out the food.

Either the kinks are working out, or to each his own, I went to Cultured Pelican the other night and was more than pleased. In fact 4 of us were. We all raved and we all ordered very different....veal, chicken, steak, and veggie. Pasta was done perfectly and the wine and desserts were excellent. the portions were more than expected and the prices a bit lower than expected. Chef Rob is doing a great job, imo....and I will be back (prob on Thursdays!!)

New Chef, new management, give it a try!

Wine Club last night at The Galleon was awesome! 4 wines - 2 whites, 2 reds - from Diageo paired with amazing appetizers. A perfect oyster, then the most delicious ravioli with crispy sage, salmon with hoisin sauce (i don't like salmon...and this was awesome) and then duck napoleon to finish it off. So much fun, lots of people came out. $35 pp.

Just got back from a fabulous meal at Salud. Their calamari was great- spiced & dresses perfectly. We had the scallops and pumpkin raviolli which were both good too. They have a creative drink menu too. I'll definitely be back.

Went to Savant a few weeks ago. I honestly don't even remember much about the meal, I only remember the bad service. Although she was very friendly, our server was unattentive. We only had our water refilled once and it was by the other server. Coffee was great but overall it was disappointing, especially because the ambience is so nice.

Hello Hello Everyone,

New to the forum (and St. Croix). Just read through almost every post--thanks so much for all the great info! Will definately be hitting up TopHat and all you can eat crab legs at H20 in the very near future 🙂

Quick question: Are the online menus at Salud, Tutto Bene, and The Galleon current?

Salud: http://www.saludbistro.com/menus.html

Tutto Bene's: http://www.tuttobenerestaurant.com/menu.html

The Galleon: http://www.galleonrestaurant.com/html-dinner.html

My lady is coming to visit on Thursday and I want to take her out to a nice dinner. I was debating between these three places and haven't been to any of them. She would probably either order a steak, pork chop, bolognese pasta or roasted chicken. She also LOVES herb roasted potatoes and salads with blue cheese. I know this is completely random, but any dish recommendations at these places or any other place would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you kindly,

Rishi

Tutto looks current, the Galleon just changed their menu so that is not. Unless this is what they changed it to, b/c the other day i was not like this. They all will probably be able to email/fax you menus. Not sure about Salud

Anyone have any photos of Eat@Cane Bay? I'm curious how it's different from Full Moon.
