I think Salud's menu online is the first one that the new chef put out when he took over. I know they put out a new menu in October, but it looks like the website hasn't been updated. I've been hearing good things!

We all ate at Good Spirits this week. They have smokers where they are cooking bar b q/ etc. on site. It is very reasonable. A light fare menu- for kids and lighter appetites are options. Grilled Cheese for $3.00? With Swiss cheese? a very good deal. You are right- bottles of wine - very reasonably priced. We had the smoked mahi dip. Yummy!! I hear there is more to come- some tex-mex options? They also cater. I wonder if they would bring a smoker to my next party? I am going to check that out.

Where is Good Spirits? It sounds like something we'd love to try!

I had lunch today at Good Spirits. The BBQ Pork Sandwich was great. I can hardly wait to go back and try the Brisket and Ribs.

A carnivores paradise!

Went to Rowdy Joe's over the weekend for dinner. I wanted to really like it because my parents like new places when they come on island. This is not what I would take them to. They are in their 60s and appreciate a good dining experience for their money. This is a fancy sandwich place , with nicely decorated bar. The apps were great, but the two specials had no seasoning and were like food that you get at an old folk's home (bland). Maybe some people think it's fun to have to be told to stand in front of a chalkboard and essentially memorize what you want before going to your seat, but for $100 for 2 people, which included drinks, I will stick to the old favs. Maybe I missed it, but did anyone else think the wooden folding chairs and bench outside needed some cushions?! Hard on the butt-ocks. If you are fresh off the beach and want something light, I would tell you to stop.

We've been here for about 10 days and we are TRYING to stick to a lot of cooking at home because I'm still looking for a job.
BUT -
**1st night here we Ate and Cheeseburgers and both really liked it. My burger was a bit Undercooked, but I prefer under to over.
**Then - Off the Wall - My husband really liked the Calzone and I give a thumbs up for their Chicken Salad sandwich.
We've since been back to Off The wall and we both had the Reuben Sandwich (and for the record if its corn beef its a Reuben, if it's Pastrami it's a Rachel) I wasn't as impressed with the Reuben as I had been with the Chicken Salad.
**A great find that I don't think has been mentioned is Extra Extra - at least I think that's what it's called, it's across from Sunny Isle and next to DIAL - total hole-in-the-wall but really good Stewed Chicken with Rice and Beans.
**went to another rice-and-beans place in F'dsted this weekend and was not impressed. Don't know what it was called but it was a local bar, the woman running it was Dominican and didn't speak English. They were very nice, but it took about 45 min for our food to come and it was just not good.
**stopped at McDs for a McFlurrie (LOVE them) - and my husband wanted an Ice coffee. McDs advertises and SELLS McFlurrie, but doesn't actually have the machine to make them!? and they don't have the Ice Coffee - my Husband is still bummed by that.
**Tonight we went to Chicken Charlies RoadHouse - Good and friendly service but the food was just EH. I had a pulled pork sandwich and my Husband ordered a LARGE pizza(!?) guess he'll have lunch for the rest of the week.

after taking 2 days to read through this WHOLE thread, I'm looking forward to some good eats, and Ideas of where to look for a job too!

By the way - What is the story with South Shore Cafe? Are they closed?

Just some comments on CAtoSTX thread -- If you are looking for a good Rueben sandwich go to No Bones Cafe in Gallows Bay. They have really good ones. My wife & I enjoy going there for a number of reasons. 1) Prices are modest & 2) the food in general is very tasty Every Wed nite is Prime Rib nite and reservations are a good idea if dining after 6:30pm. It's a small & cozy type place with a/c & lots of TV's. They are a lunch & dinner bar/restaurant.

As for South Shore Cafe, I thought it was open. As for McD's -- don't expect the same stuff down here as in the states even though menu says it is available. It's just one of the compromises one has to make when you live here.

Will Definitely try the No Bones Reuben - Thanks.

And I've traveled enough to know about certain places not having the same stuff across the board (McDs) - and McDs does SELL the mcflurrie - they just have more of a "hands on" approach 🙂 you have to mix it yourself.

Does anyone know when IHOP on STX is opening? I saw lights and people in there a couple of nights ago. It looked like a training class.

i had a really great breakfast this morning at Rum Runners - had the 3 egg omelet (only i had just eggwhites) with peppers and mushrooms - $8.50. It came with a hashbrown (like McD's) and toast. My friend had 2 mini croissant egg sandwiches with sausage patties - i think hers was $7. Really nice waitstaff and quick service. I hear the Rum Runner (eggs benedict with lobster) is awesome - and only $13!

Golden Rail presents "Dos Gringos". Golden Rail will do breakfast and lunch then it will switch to Mexican dinners by Dos Gringos. Hand made authentic Mexican food. They open next Thursday.

Just FYI!

Coming from San Diego.... I'm starting to go through withdrawal, I'm willing to test it out .
I still have to try Luncharia too.
Thanks Noah!

We lived in San Diego before moving here also. There is no good Mexican food here, you will be disappointed with all of it.

I know - but until I moved to California, I grew up in New England and thought "Chilies" was Mexican food.
I've had a great spectrum and would NOT consider myself a connoisseur.

On that note - how about Fish Tacos (grilled, not baja)? I've been told to go to The Deep End - Thoughts?

I like the Fish Tacos at Eat@CaneBay. They are a new place and I have only had them twice but they were good both times. Also try the Fish Tacos at Rowdy Joe's.

One new hope is Good Spirits out at The Reef Golf course. They have great smoked meats and are talking about doing TexMex. Now that isn't real Mexican food but everything that I have had there has been good.

Noah, they're going to be doing *real* Mexican food? Definitely going to have to go there.

They've started serving TexMex (aka "Mexican")

I had the chicken tacos. Friend had the enchilada. Both were tasty.

Their deserts are good too, though a bit pricey ($5 for a delicious iced mint chocolate brownie).

If ordering BBQ for takeout, ask for extra sauce, they aren't giving enough.

stephyjh, that's the word! We're bringing in lots of tomatillos and chiles for them. I'm curious to see, as well!

One of the best fish sandwich dinners I've ever had was at Angry Nate's. And, as a T-totaler, I really enjoyed their fruit punch. Had 3 re-fills!

So, instead of going straight to the post office, bank, hardware store, turn left at the stop sign and drive past customs and the ferry dock. It's past that on your left.
