stxbob, you should have read my post on sam woo before you went out. we went there for the sushi as my bf loves sushi, prices were way to high. actually they did have more that 6 types, if you had looked down you would have seen menu items in the 15-30 range for sushi. crazy, right.
catostx, smugglers cove has great hot rocks ( i think thats what they are called ). the pizza always takes sooo long to come out and they usually only have one server for the whole place. the pizza is just ok. i like flat iron grill for pizza. ( old vinnies by the kmart appliance store )
the check pick up here on island at any restuarant always seems to take so long.

It's where Bongo's was, on Company St. in C'sted, next to Club 54.

Had dinner at Galangal last night - never been before and it was awesome! the ambience is killer, it's like stepping into a manhattan restaurant. so different than anything else on st. croix. it's small and intimate, which is nice. the service was short staffed but we weren't in a rush to leave. They brought us out complimentary rice cakes with peanut sauce which were good - very different, the sauce was great. Edamame was good, basically like any other i've had. Mussels were awesome. The people at the table had red curries with chicken and duck curry. All were excellent - the basic red curry is spicey, so if you don't like that you will need it toned down. I had the soy cured salmon which was delicious. $207 for 4 people with a bottle of wine and some cocktails. I'll definitely go back!

I was downtown and stopped into Sale e Miele, which just opened yesterday. It's right across the street from Company House hotel you go through the gate (north of Kicks) and to the left. It's an espresso bar, restaurant, and food store. They sell authentic Italian products from canned cherry tomatoes to Italian sodas, cookies, pastas, the list goes on.

They serve lunch from 11:30-2 and then they switch to deli style where you can get take home meals. They had stuffed peppers and homemade lasagna to name a few. They're slicing mortadella, speck (Italian bacon), and a huge prosciutto di Parma. They also had a massive wheel of Parmesan reggiano that they sell by the pound. They FORCED me to try a creamy Dolce Gorgonzola that was a delicious and mild Italian blue. J/k, I love blue cheese.

Mike and Rosaria are the owners and they're very welcoming and warm. I think they may be shying away from serving to go meals in foam boxes and instead encouraging folks to sit down and enjoy the meal, or borrow the plate. I cautioned them on how much Crucians LOVE to eat their meal out of a styrofoam box.

Just FYI: I work for a food distribution company so I'm rooting for every restaurant on the island. I wanted to plug their new establishment and spread the word to you all. I know that we all love to try something new, but sometimes we're unaware of a new opening!

Noah, are they only open for lunch? If so, how much for the lasagna?
Thanks for letting us know about them.

Margarita Girl. I like that name,it makes me wonder if you like Margaritas ? You see I am bringing in a very special Margarita machine I would like to introduce to the island. If and when you all see it,the first question you will ask yourself is. What is this crazy Son of a Gun up to with this thing ?

Somebody, somewhere has already tried this and their may be one on St Croix already. I guess you'll just have to wait and see,but it will make you an interesting Margarita.

Yes, chicamargarita. I think the lasagna was at $10. They had a hand written special board on the wall that I checked out, but I already had lunch so I wasn't in the market for a plate.

Ate at Bombay Club last night. The beef brisket was to die for. For the two of us and my wife's wine, oh yea I had a side order of bread, was only $33!
Definetly recommend it!
On Tuesday had lunch atPier 69 in Fsted. Had the steak sandwitch which was very very good.

Our friends made an antipasta plate from the meats and cheeses at Sale e Miele and it was AWESOME
Im so excited to go check that place out.
I noticed an ad this weekend for Sushi at Angry Nates on Sun + Mon, has anyone tried it? I'm so glad that so many places are starting to give Dashi some competition.

I had the sushi at Angry Nates last weekend. Not much variety but what they had was very good. The tuna and salmon were great and the Spider Roll and California Rolls were huge and very good. The prices seemed high compared to Dashi but when the sushi came the portions were very large compared to Dashi.

I will go back. I like Angry Nates.

Sounds like the Sushi has improved. When we went 3 weekends ago my wife and sister in-laws didn't like it. They had to send one roll back. But his credit the manager asked us what was wrong and relayed it to the Sushi chef who was very receptive. We got the feeling it was a work in progress...it sounds like they are making good progress! We really like Angry Nates too so I'm sure we'll try it again.

Noah, my wife and I stopped in at Sale e Miele this morning, and had some amazing coffee. Also picked up a nice bottle of Primotivo. Mike said you were very helpful in helping them secure their offerings. Bravo. The setting was so charming, and Mike and Rosario are fantastically friendly. I hope everyone makes a point to stop in and support this really unique business on St. Croix.

Not sure--I'm not familiar with Deanna's. It's directly across the street from the Company House hotel.

We went to Angry Nates yesterday for dinner. Had the salmon sushi, calamari, talapia, and seafood pasta. It was decent to good. What was really weird, is that they added an AUTOMATIC GRATUITY FOR A PARTY OF TWO. First time that ever happened. I asked the waiter about that. He said if the party looks like they are from off island, they add the automatic gratuity. I would have actually tipped more than they 18% they added. It's an ill conceived policy and not good for the tourist trade IMO.

Is the Company House Hotel the old Tutto Bene which then became a series of forgettable restaurants (except for the one that served truffled mac-n-cheese)? Businesses change so often down here I lose track.

sugarlander, that's whack! What a strange policy...

Paula, I think most recently the space that Sale e Miele is occupying was a Soap and Bubble company. I forget the name, but I think they sold specialty soaps and lotions etc. It's inside the alley next to Kicks, to the left...can't miss it.

I was talking to Golden Wok and I asked him how the sushi game was going. He said that it's been very busy and the chef is from Japan and has worked in high class restaurants all over. Angry Nates could put a damper on the C'sted sushi market that Dashi use to have the monopoly on. Nothing wrong with competition. The bar should be raised when your slice of the market pie shrinks, and that's best for the paying guests!
