I really like the avocado pitt! The yellowfin tuna wrap is really good, and they have curly fries which is awesome.

We tried Topside on the East end.The menu is HUGE and the food was great. I really think they are going to give other places a run for their $. Nice app menu, salads and desserts. The bloomin' onion is something I miss from The Outback. Nice job. They totally revamped inside and outside areas. Had tamales and they were great. But they had everything else you would want, even some Danish items, which I have never tried, but might now.

Topside last night, it was about half full, they need more sit down tables and fewer bistro tables. Stools with no back, not for dinner. Service was a bit slow but the drinks came and we ordered. It took a little longer than it should have for the food to arrive, The fish and chips, 14.99 was very good. Fillet size pieces of fish with English style chips which were a bit undercooked. The mahi was a good size fillet with a salsa style topping , Duggan's, watch out. All in all, very good food, a huge menu, the service needs to improve, rum punches were great and the beer was cold. 1-10 scale, I'd give it a 7, I think it is going to be a very popular place.

Dinner at Above the Cliff tonight. Somebody knows how to make BBQ! The baby back ribs and brisket were great. And Deanna Brown was terrific. We'll be going there a lot!

We finally tried topside. I was disappointed that they only have bistro tables. Half of the do not even have backs on the chairs. Its just NOT comfortable. It looks like they have room to put a whole bunch more tables though so I hope they get some better ones. Other then that it looks very clean and like they did a really good spruce job on the place along with a very sturdy new roof outside.

They bought out chips and salsa after we ordered. The chips were home fried FLOUR toritlla chips, so I definitely liked them, I still like corn more but only place on island I know that fries their own, so I could have eaten a couple baskets myself. The salsa looked like real Mexican salsa, thin and runny. But it was very very bland and oddly sweet. It didn't even taste like it had salt. It definitely need more garlic, lime, lime, and jalapeño. We had the bloomin onion for an appetizer, which tasted just like the real thing, excellent. It was about 4th the size but I think that is perfect because the real one is off the charts fattening. For two it was the perfect size, for four people it might be a tad small but less fattening. 😉

We ordered from the Mexican part of the menu and had the chimichanga and burrito. Having grown up all over Texas it just seemed bland. The meats in both were cooked well but had no Mexican spices, peppers, etc in them. Mexican cooking is all about slow cooking and marinating your meats. So it wasn't bad, it was just like some Midwestern friends had had us over to their home for Mexican.

Didn't have any problems with service, waitress was very nice. We will definitely be going back there are many things we are looking forward to trying on the menu.

Also went to topside.

1. The menu is massive, overwhelmingly massive. There is just no way they can keep it all. You have sandwiches, danish, italian, mexican, fish, steaks, and PLENTY options of each.

2. Service is eh right now. They seemed to have 3 people behind the bar at one time but only one waitress. We sat down at our table (no one greeted us), and waited for 10 minutes trying to catch one of the bartenders or someone, and the bar wasn't even busy. We sat and looked at the menu for a bit. Asked our waitress what she recommended and what was the chef's specialty, she points to the two most expensive items on the menu so we disregard her suggestions. At our time, we had 4 tables or so eating dinner but our waitress was def. scattered. When we ordered first round of drinks, she brought out half at a time. The 2nd time, she brought out the drinks 1 at a time. They needed to have less people behind the bar and more on the floor.

3. Ordered 2 apps, the blooming onion and indian dish. Onion was good, indian dish was a disappointment. Deep fried and filled with minimal amounts of curry chicken, more air in in than chicken. Entrees were 2 pasta dishes, 1 sandwich and 1 mexican. The pasta dishes came with bread that came on a paint eisle (sp?) with 5 different kinds of butter as the paint, it was really something and pretty good.
-Mexican- a bit bland but not bad, chips were good but salsa wasn't
-Pasta- both said it was good but not great,
-Sandwich- was a great sandwich, massive in size and quality ingredients, english chips were good too

4. Another thing you will notice is the prices, this place is cheap by STX standards. Sandwiches with fries go from 12-15, Mexican is around there, all the pastas seemed to be 15-19 range, Only the steaks in the 30s seemed pricy. Both apps right under 10. We had 2 apps, 4 entrees, 3 non-alc drinks, 5 alc drinks and our bill was 110.

Personally, I think this place will be a hit, I almost want to say they are just putting out their feelers for a menu to find what people like before narrowing it down. Everyone rated it between 6-7/10 but with the right menu items, I am sure it goes to 7-8. They just can't keep that kitchen stocked. Will I go back? absolutely, any problems with service are expected on a restaurant that just opened and they will fix it in the coming weeks.

Went to Above the Cliff last night.
Great food and great entertainment. He has a server there that is amazing, she is really on the ball, best that I have seen on island. Very attentive. Her name is Alex.
Last night he had Jahnee Red Locks and da Tree a We, what a great band. If you have not heard these guys you should check them out. Great Reggae band.

Chris has entertainment several nights of the week. I think this is the schedule. I love that we have such great music on the N. shore.

Tuesdays-Michael Justice
Wednesdays-Matt Verba
Thursdays-Deanna Brown
Fridays-Mercy Child

Deanna has moved on. Looking for someone to fill the Thursday slot. Saturdays will continue to be announced. Alex is a great waitress and really is on the ball. Currently she only works weekends. Thanks Margarita girl. It is always good to see you guys. Menus are coming your way.

Went back to Topside. Liked it again. Tried one of the salads-The Caribe-it was good. What I liked was that it had portions of a very spicy shrimp salad, a lobster salad, cucumber salad and coleslaw all on one plate. My husband had the fish and chips-also good. It should be authentic because one if the people seemingly in charge is British...It was a good crowd, but no one had to wait. I really thought they wouldn't have enough tables outside, but no one waited. They have the inside seating, too. This would be another place I can take my parents to when they visit.

Hey, Speee1dy,
The title of the thread is STX Restaurant Ratings. Perhaps vigem means STX.

vigem- All of these have buffets: Divi, Carambola, Palms, H20, Beachside Cafe $30 to $40ish. Bigger selection in the paper. I know Rumrunners, Bluewater Terrace and Topside are all doing dinners but not a buffet. I'm sure there's a lot more but that's all I know. 🙂

We ate at Topside today for the first time. The food was all very good and the menu is very large and diverse. They do need to add tables (and low ones would be nice - as mentioned above), I was surprised that there were only 7 tables outside. The service was marginal and will definitely need to improve but overall it was good. I think it's a great addition to the island and hope it sticks around!
