Hey All!
Just to update here.. The Case Place in Gallows Bay (STX) now has new hours. We are open from 11am 'till 6pm. Both kitchen and bar.
Had to cut out full dinner service due to economy (and WAPA!!). Will have an ad in the Avis next day or so and will be SMOKE-FREE by the Feb. 10th deadline!!!

Glad to hear that a place opened up again at Salt River. The old place, Columbus Cove, made a great pastrami sandwich. Will try the new. I also noticed what looks like a new BBQ place called Blues. Have just seen the new sign lit at night, never open, with a smoker grill nearby. It's in a fenced property close to and across street from Progressive Veterinary office/La Grande Princesse. Nice to have something mid-island. I will check previous posts to see if mentioned...

I'd love more info on this place if anyone has it. We live right around the corner and would definitely be interested in checking it out.

Been there a few times...It started as a after work happy hour place to toss horeshoes and have a few cold ones. Now they serve up BBQ lunch 11-2. Awesome pulled pork sandwich $5.00.

.

Had the brisket sandwich, and it was really good and large for $6.00. Tried the pulled pork. It was OK...It was on a bread I didn't care for, so next time I'll ask for a regular bun. Also, it didn't have sauce (which I usually prefer), but without it, it didn't have that special "flavor" it needs if served dry. Next time, add sauce and regular bun, please.

Bernie...We must be neighbors!

Do they have BBQ chicken? We don't eat pork or red meat, but love a good BBQ fowl.

Juanita, we're at Pelican Cove, so yes, we're nearly neighbors!

On a similar topic, anyone have a scoop on Chocolate's? I've been intrigued by the place for a while, but haven't yet stopped in. Is the food there any good?

Regarding Chocolate's, we were sooooo hoping to love it, but not the case. First off, we didn't "recognize" any of the food. That's OK. We'll try new things, but we were not able to communicate with the person working the line. My husband's Spanish is pretty good, but still we weren't able to find out what we would be eating, and the person wasn't at all helpful. That was over 3 years ago, and we haven't been back. We did not feel welcome. Maybe we should give it another try. Could have just been an off day.

I tried Chocolate's once since it is just down the road. Was not impressed enough to ever go back. Wasn't bad, just not as good as so many better choices.

Went to Chocolate's one time, we walk up looked at the food asked what it was then walked away.
We had no idea what it was. Never went back.

Ah, the old "unidentifiable food" trick--the oldest trick in the book for keeping out "undesirables"! 🙂

Glad I asked. We'll be going elsewhere.

I sent a private message recently to "chockman" about a recent experience but haven't heard back.

Hey Chris (Above the Cliffs),
Love to come by for some bbq. Our thing is we don't so much want loud, live music. We adore some of the people you have playing and like their music, but we want to "chat" while dining. What evening is the "quietest", or would we be better off coming for lunch? How about a posting of your hours, entertainment schedule, etc.? Would that bother anyone??? I know there was a question about adverstising, but I would consider it a service. Just me....

Hope it's going well for you!

I agree, when dining I don't want loud noise. I would like to be able to talk with my dinner companions.

Had lunch a couple of days ago at Above the Cliff. The food was terrific - especially the chicken tenders. Dinner tonight at the new Pirates Tavern and loved the enchiladas and the burritos. I'm so glad we have these places and Rowdy Joes on the northside.

I agree as well. And before anyone starts stereotyping... none of us are old sticks in the mud! For heaven's sake, I'm only 31!

I agree, background music is great but unless you are going there for the music it is nice to be able to talk to your companions without shouting. I thought Frankie had a great idea at Lobster Reef when he moved the bandstand out to the parking lot. You could hear the music but it wasn't overpowering.

And even if you don't want to talk to your companions, even the best music is, in my opinion, not enjoyable when it's too loud. And it's not worth losing your hearing over it!

Had lunch today at Pirate's Tavern. Chicken tacos and the special, wahoo tacos. Both delish, although I thought the wahoo tacos were pretty highly priced considering there were only two of them and probably not much more than a few ounces of wahoo in them total.

Service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxing. We'll be back.

Music runs 6 days a week lately. Tuesday through Sunday. Times very. Food has been described as the best BBQ on the island. The kitchen stays open nightly until 9:00 pm.

New items are a smoked Mahi, fish taco. Chili burger 10 oz, like the fatboy but served on a bed of fries and smothered in Chili, cheese and your favorite garnish. The newest is a Taco salad, served with your choice of meat, pulled pork, chopped brisket, chicken, ground beef or whatever we have laying around. It comes with sour cream and salsa. If you like a bite on your taste buds, try the house salsa.

Jerry, where's my spot lights for the driveway signs. We should be serving fresh local Wahoo and Lobster by Friday.
