Looking for a decent tattoo artist, preferably female since all my other tattoos were done by female artists, but I'd be willing to look at male artists as well. I'm on STX, but after having met with Jerry across from Plaza Extra, it'll be a cold day in *ahem* a very warm place before Iget a tattoo from him--I found it suspect that he didn't have any photos displayed of his own work, just the flash on the walls, and I got a weird vibe from him that I didn't quite trust. I've also seen some of his work, and it's not the quality I would like for myself. I'm willing to go to another island to get it done if I need to, but I would like to hear recommendations from the people here as to who's good.

There's a guy Eli who moved here with his girlfriend. I haven't seen the work but others really like. His number is 340.227.2269. Not sure where he's working out of...heard he was getting a place by rebound and then also heard in the Pan Am.

I like Robin at Compass Rose in Havensight on STT. She inked me in June.

A lot of people have spoken highly of Eli. I met him and he's a cool guy, and he did some work on a friend that is pretty awesome. I'm not an ink guy but thought I'd put that out there.

Just thought I'd put my "two cents" in, for what it's worth. I made an appointment with Eli for 6:00 tonight, drove 45 minutes to his place, and he wasn't there. No answer to phone calls or texts. So, we're at Jesse's shop by Plaza. Really nice guy. I'll keep you posted...

Well, Eli did text me back beginning at around 8:45 that he forgot, but... We're quite happy with Jesse's results. He had a pleasant demeanor, did quality work and was very quick. He also won "best of" for the last two years, if that says anything. Kudos!

I wouldn't send my worst enemy to Jesse for Ink. His shop is dirty (compared to what a true Tattoo shop should look like, think "Microsoft clean room") I asked him about his autoclave (Heat/pressure cleaning system for his tools) and he gave me a blank look and replied "What?"
The pieces I've seen that he has done are a small step above prison ink. Raised, infected lines are his norm. He's a hack. STAY AWAY!
Remember, it will be on you for the rest of your life. Why rush it?
PS: Never trust a shop that has all flash art, but no portfolio of previous work.
Also, it's easy to "win" best of VI when you have no other competition listed...

I'm not sure when you last visited his shop, but it was immaculate -- far cleaner than any I've seen, which is quite a few. All his tools came out of pre-sealed packages, and he had walls full of photos of his work.
I guess my advice would be to visit him and make your own judgment.

He's across from Plaza (East) upstairs in the building behind Starfish. Hours are 10:30 to 7:00 Monday through Saturday and by appointment only on Sundays. 277-3982

jesse, has been the only option on STX for years, and by looking at locals tattoos, you can tell. It's sad, but Eli had to turn away a TON of business for his first few months here because everybody wanted him to fix Jesse's stuff. it didn't go over real well with Jesse, kinda like a gang members and graffiti. So Eli decided he wouldn't touch any of his stuff anymore, and still turns away jobs every day because of it.
Eli really does amazing work. He's done 3 big pieces on me, and he did a full sleeve on my buddy. he's a real artist, he thrives on custom work. jesse is a "heart with an arrow through it and MOM written under it" kinda tattooer. that being said, Eli is kinda tough to get a hold of, and is renowned for being late or not showing at all...and he's a little crazy, but damn, he knows how to lay ink. going to him is definitely an experience you will never forget, and you will be left with a tattoo that you can be proud to show off.

Mark, who is rated as one of the top ten in the COUNTRY, visits Compass Rose every coupla months...was just here, so he'll be back in about 2 mo...he books up quick...it may be worth your time and money to fly over to STT...he's THAT good! My Motorcycle Club uses only him and we kinda get preferred status with him...but I didn't book fast enough and he was booked the entire month he was here...no days off, from open to close...The man is TALENTED! Just FYI, I was talking to a friend who said his buddy at the health department told him Eli and Deb were shut down because they weren't licensed and have infected some people with hepatitis. Please be careful out there.
