Restaurants with generator love WAPA. Their prayers for full tables are usually answered.

Nothing like dining by candlelight and viewing the stars in the sky.

Unless, of course, you have a generator!
For those of you considering a move to the VI, a propane stove is a must. It helps to have 2 tanks as well so when one tank runs out in the middle of cooking, you can switch over to the other. Having a generator is great, especially if it has an auto transfer switch but if not, battery operated lights, extra batteries, candles, etc. Will help keep your sanity.

WAPA goes off frequently.

I rarely run the generator for the occasional outage - I prefer oil lanterns rather than candles or battery powered flashlights - I have found that bringing in my solar powered porch lights adds an easy and quick source of illumination though.
A spare propane container is an essential item in any case here and I would recommend it.

Aren't they wonderful! I have my whole deck illuminated by them and if I need light inside (not a big deal last night with the moon so brilliant) it's so easy to bring one or two in and not fiddle with candles or smelly oil lamps!

With all the holidays we have in the USVI I hope WAPA doesn't get behind this holiday outage celebration.

Ditto, mine.

Here's the Source article about last night's outage which now continues today it seems. http://stthomassource.com/content/news/local-news/2015/04/04/much-st-thomas-st-john-blacked-out

Happy Easter y'all!
A day at the beach sounds good!

Yeah but you've got power in STX?

I wonder if there's a comparison chart of how often power goes off on STT vs. STX?

Whose got the dubious distinction of having the most outages over the course of a year?

STT has far more power outages than STX (with the possible exception of the NW corner of STX....which has more issues than anywhere).

Thanks for cheering me up, Beeski!
Power's still out from this morning before 8AM.
It's the 3rd outage in as many days. It does get tiresome.

It just came back on. 😎
Hope it's the last for at least a few days!

I was working then fishing for this morning's outage. Came back on minutes before I got home. So I had fresh coffee. Yay

No matter where you go you should carry a portable light source, water, snacks, extra phone batteries, etc in your man purse or whatever. And you should have waterproof case and extra charger for your phone.

I think you're probably joking, but I'm not going to take that chance.

Buy rechargeable batteries and a small battery charger. I found one on Amazon at a very reasonable price and it quickly charges batteries from AAA through D. About 10 years ago I bought a couple of small hand-cranking "dyno" flashlights (no batteries) which have high and low beams and throw out a big amount of light - they're still working as well today as when I bought them. You learn an abundance of tricks over the years!

Yep, so you can increase your chance of survival no matter what comes. 🙂 When the ferries have accidents, you'll be prepared to wait hours for rescue. If you get bumped by seaplane, you'll have water and snacks. If power goes out anywhere, you'll have a flashlight.

I have Flashlight apps on my phones. My small flashlights don't work for some reason. Need to find out what's up with my devices and batteries...
