So we're finally on our way. We have a house (we've been renting it out) on st croix that we've been visting 5 times a year or so for weeks at a time for the last few years. Now we're finally in the RV making our way from California with our zoo. 2 large dogs, 3 cats and a goldfish. We're spending about 6 weeks RVing across the US visiting various things.
Go large ball of twine in Kansas! We finally arrive for good on 6/1 with a quick charter flight for the zoo. They were really curious about the goldfish on the charter!

Day 3 in the RV. Various items of much obtainium have been well.... obtained.
We all become closer and tighter over time. The dogs and cats have procured a truce. Various schedules and routines have been established. The animals pook much less than I was somewhat worried about.

Hello, would love to know how your charter experience turns out with your animals as I am hoping to bring my 130 lb dog this fall. Any hints or details would be great, thanks (also from CA.)

Given we had 2 humans, 2 large dogs and 3 cats we simply chartered a small jet for ourselves. It was definitely pricey. Though you can get it down to about 12-13k the longer you wait and the more possibilities you have for getting another leg.
I ended up using Magellan jets. There are lots of charter companies out there.
The STX one was one i considered and they were competitive but in the end went with Magellan.
If you have the time trying to find someone here on boards to share with would be a better option

We did the same several years ago. Drove with our own zoo; two kids, two cats and three bulldogs from the north east to fla and then private charter into stx. It ran us around $13k too. We're now looking to reverse the trip and lining up a private charter out. we may be able to split the charter fare with you paying the way in and us paying the way out. Let me know the details of who you're using and maybe we can work it out to be mutually beneficial. Just PM me if you're interested.

We've made it to the New Mexico/Colorado border. Settled in for the night at 7900 feet.
Who knew ice/snow would still be happening here at the end of April!
Got stuck for an extra day.
T-minus 34 days.

The goldfish is in a 10 gallon aquarium. He used to live in a 40 gallon. Theres about 2 gallons out of the 10 right now to avoid sloshing too much water our whlie driving. He seems to be doing fine. The dogs seem to enjoy the many walks a day they get now with different things to sniff each day. The cats still hide while driving but come right out once we stop for the night.
We were originally looking for specific places to stop for various amusements. However while in Arizona and after seeing the Grand Canyon we saw a sign for Meteor Crater road.
Totally stopped there. HUGE metoer crater! Also an old apollo test capsule and a great interactive museum.
Based on that success our current stops are mainly to visit family(and new orleans).
Anything else will be stopped based on seeing signs and going yeah let's check that out!
The sun is out and the snow has lifted. We're off again today to Kansas. Gonna check out that big old ball of twine!

The Garden of Eden in Lucas, KS is far more impressive than the big ball of string. It's really worth a look and not that far off of I-70. The turn off is just east of Russell where Bob Dole grew up.

there is also a garden of eden in key west, but NOT the same type of entertainment/establishment

I'd be curious to hear how you felt about the Grand Canyon Railway. We have a wedding to attend in Las Vegas in October; I'm planning to take an extra 3 or 4 days and head down to Williams.

We had a GREAT time. Took the dome car, even took the tour at the top!
