Thinking of taking a day trip to Tortola - ideas of things I have to see? Places we need to eat at? Is one day enough?? Thanks

Personally, I don't think one day is enough. The Fast Ferry is not fast at all. Too much to do and see. Make a weekend out of it, like Alana suggested.

yes, i agree. one day is nice, but 2 or 3 days even better! you could spend all day at cane garden bay... and you'd better not miss quito and the edge or i will find you :D! and there is trellis bay on the beef island, strolling downtown, the beaches like smugglers cove, exploring the waters snorkeling... jump off to virgin gorda and do the baths and come on back and relax your spirit, the national parks...

I had the same questions. My bf and I celebrated our one year on island anniversary visiting Tortola. I asked and recieved some good info/opinions and gave a review of our stay there. Here's the thread https://www.vimovingcenter.com/talk/read.php?4,167122,168738#msg-168738. Hope that helps! And you will have so much fun!

If you just want to do a day trip up and around the BVI - try http://newhorizonscharters.com/
They do 4 stops (which may be a bit ambitious) including the Baths at Virgin Gorda,
Diamond Reef for Snorkeling, Marina Cay for Lunch, Jost Van Dyke and the Soggy Dollar Bar

I sent previous guests on this trip and they quite enjoyed it.
I used to recommend Limnos but guess they are no longer in business.
USVI Government also chased Atlantis Submarine out of business here.

Love Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Try to go for a couple of days to enjoy it. Rent a car and go driving around Tortola it is beautiful. Go to the baths in Virgin Gorda. Snorkel the Indians. You can take a day trip to Virgin Gorda.
Fat Hog Bob's is my favorite restaurant in Tortola.
Have Fun!

We did the New Horizons boat trip that was great but I was looking to goto Tortola. I think we are only gonna make it for one day there so I am gonna have to pack as much as possible in. Does anyone know a transportation that keeps u on the island past 330pm?

Nope. The ferries are it as far as I know unless you hire a private boat to take you back and forth or have a friend with a boat willing to do so. Probably best to go into Roadtown instead of West End, depending on what you would like to do and see during the day. The Tortola ferries often do not run on time so consider yourself lucky if they are the day you go. My niece lives on Tortola and she often experiences time delays when traveling back and forth. That's why it would be better to be able to stay more than one day. I expect you can do a one day trip just to get an idea of what island is like and rent a car for the day to get around but planning at least a 2 day trip would be better, if you have time and your trip would not be so hectic.

I looked in Summer Issue of This Week and found the following info on page 79:
Smith's Ferry - Phone number 775 - 7292 www.smithferry.com (Tortola Fast Ferry)

Native Son - 774-8685
www.nativesonferry.com

There is a departure time: Roadtown, Tortola, 5:30pm on a Saturday. But on page 78 in their seperate ads they don't have that departure time.

I would call to confirm with all ferry companies to see what is the latest time they leave Tortola depending on if you are leaving from Roadtown or West End and the day you are going.

Road Town Fast Ferry - 777-2800 or 715-2800
www.roadtownfastferry.com

I remember going for one day with some visitors from the states and we stayed past 3:30pm with the whole CAHS Track Team and a few Tortola citizens to party here. We were dropped off at Red Hook, not Charlotte Amalie where we left from and where my car was, so we had to take the dollar safari to town. I can't remember which ferry it was. I will call them and see if they remember. And will post an update.
