Tour Groups/Relo

Good evening all! I have been contemplating making a huge leap of faith and expanding my event planning background into a recurring "tour group" that would include musicians to perform each night (either local hangout that customers would enjoy live music/and have seating for an additional 30 ppl, or hotel/resort) and allow the participants to explore the islands or do a group tour during the day. I feel it would be best to live on STT and will be coming down in September to do a pre-PMV....to really check out the local scene prior to a true PMV to figure out living arrangements. Is this something that would be well received?? Thank you so much for providing your input! Counting the days 'til I arrive!

There are event planners and tour group operators on island/STT that schedule corporate, etc., group visits, set up events and tours and such so you'll have to check out the competition while here to see if this is a niche you can fill or an already saturated market.

It would actually be organizing trips that are sponsored by specific radio stations throughout TX/OK/KS focusing on a particular type of music. The groups that would be coming down would purchase the trip in order to have an "up close and personal" trip experience with their favorite musicians. These types of trips happen all the time to Mexico/Europe, but I have no desire to live in Mexico and have dreamed of living in USVI for so long.

Maybe some of the established companies can provide advice.
Lots of music and musicians on STT and VI.
Good luck.

Hotel Caravelle on St Croix has been sponsoring a concert series featuring local and visiting bands. DBS, a Journey cover band, played last month; local bands "the legendary Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights and the sizzling VI Cool Sessions Brass" will play the finale in the series Saturday night. You might want to contact Hotel Caravelle with your idea.

If I understand what you are asking, you are going to bring down bands and fans to go with them? Sounds like an interesting idea. One concern is that it is a lot more expensive to come here from Texas than to go to Mexico. Is there a concern about price point for your groups? There are several venues on St Thomas that have touring groups from the states: Latitude18, Tillett Gardens, Abi Beach, and Hull Bay come to mind off the top of my head. These groups also go over to St John during a brief tour.

That is exactly what my plan is. I would like to do 4-6 SMALL (30-50ppl) groups a year, and I think being down there full time would be my best option. Plus, with my regular full-time job, I can work remotely. So I could do my regular job while I build relationships there and build my business.
I know it is more expensive, but that would allow me to focus on the smaller size groups. Plus, it would not be full bands, just the front person, so it would be 3-4 singer/songwriters and they would play each night as a song-swap acoustically.

Cquinn, I just remembered, the last couple of years there has been a group of country songwriters come down and play at the Reickoff Center in St Thomas, may have been sponsored by Caribbean Country radio, I know they advertised it heavily. I don't think they brought down the audience. Your thing does sound like an excellent group vacation/corporate junket/team-building type idea.
