Trying to get my dog from St. Thomas to St Croix...

Hello everyone - I'll be moving to St Croix late December from Tennessee. I will be flying Delta because they are the only airline that will fly her 700 series crate (she's a Great Dane about 130lbs) BUT, they can only fly to St Thomas - NOT directly to St Croix.

My question is this: How do I get her from St Thomas to St Croix?? Are there any ferries? Boats to rent?

PLEASE...I need help. Any and all info will be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!

Delta has non stop flights from Atlanta to St Croix daily from Dec 17-Jan 7. But I don't think Delta accepts dogs as checked bags anymore. No ferry as of yet. You can call Bohlke Airways and charter a small airplane for the pooch form STt to STX.

Call Seaborne Airlines.
http://www.seaborneairlines.com

I don't know if they have size restrictions but I've flown with my 80 lb. dog from STT to PR for surgery and back, previously. They service STT/STX with regular daily flights. She was in cargo going over as flight was full.
On the way back, they allowed her kennel in the 2 seats across from me since there weren't many passengers.

I can give you contact info on a private FAA certified service here in STT that a friend who's a pilot works with if other arrangements don't work out.
PM me, if needed.

You're likely going have to hire a boat to bring her over. None of the planes that fly will allow her in cabin and most of them are tiny planes. Im sure you can find someone who's coming over. Too bad the ferry is STILL not running. Should give up on that I suppose.

Dog would fly cargo from STT for the 20 min. flight to STX.
A boat trip, if you can find someone to take you, will take considerably longer and it can be an extremely rough trip. A seasick dog makes an unhappy dog....and owner.

Airlines, including Delta, will not accept pets as cargo or checked bags on Airbuses. The STX route is equipped with an Airbus.

Derek Watkins - Scheduling and Dispatch.

A dear friend who is a pilot works with them gave me their card when I
saw him recently at a memorial service. I told him I was finally relocating
to the states and had concerns about transporting my 15 year old, 80 lb. black lab/retriever. (Along with the other 2 dogs but I was particularly concerned about Sheba.)

He mentioned I might be able to use this to fly with them from STT to Orlando. I was hoping to use them and that Frank would be my pilot

Unfortunately, I never got around to inquiring as my beautiful girl had a seizure that left her partially paralyzed, very disoriented and after spending an agonizing 10 days going back and forth to the vet, I had to make the dreaded decision that all pet owners must face.

I would check with Seaborne, first. 340-773-0421
Ask them if any other regular airlines, carry dogs to STX if they can't help.
Try Bohlke as STXsailor mentioned. 340-778-9177
Ace flight center also does charter flights. 340-776-4141
I also saw that Seaflight does daily flights between STT/STX.
340-714-3000 and 719-3300
Good luck to you and your pup.
Welcome to de tropics, mon.

American will accept your large dog as air cargo (expedite FS). You'll need to call. It will cost but probably not as much as chartering a plane.

If you fly Delta, try calling Cape Air - they helped some friends of ours get their doodle from STX to SJU to catch a Delta flight without exorbitant charges.

MIA to STX is Boeing service.

We flew our large dog over to St. Croix from St. Thomas with a plane and pilot from St. Croix. Unfortunately, he's left island but there are others still there. Call Bohlke International in St. Croix. They flew us and the dogs to the States. Totally reliable.

I certainly would avoid Seaborne like the plague. They cancel flights or are late most of the time.

On what plane? Would have to be a full sized. I can't imagine the small planes can handle a crate for a Dane.

Isn't Bohkle private charters at $3k a pop?

OP fwiw make sure you do a night flight or first thing. Those planes are SOOO hot and when we flew our cats from STT to STX I thought they'd die of overheating. Panting and freaking out because it was so hot!

Didn't have a problem with getting Sheba over to PR for her surgery.
She was fine. We went Seaborne .
That's why I suggested them.
The shorter the flight, the better.
Plus the view was awesome.

Anyway, at least Summer has options from which to choose.
Hope well hear how it went...good, challenging, etc.
