Oil isn't accepted at the Peter's rest center unless they've changed the rules recently. Waste Management's web site seems to be in pretty bad shape lately, a lot of information missing. You probably need to call them direct at (340) 712-4962 to ask.

Thanks Scubadoo.
I can't be the only guy changing his own oil on-island.
Dealer wanted $88 for an oil change!

There are hits about do it yourself used oil disposal on Waste Management's web site but all the actual information seems to be missing links. Even the convenience center brochure that I downloaded some time ago is now a missing link.

Not surprising really.
I'll give them a call tomorrow. Like everything else, it'll work out.

I found on the VIWMA site that the location for DIY used oil drop off is:

Department of Public Works
Anna's Hope Compound
Christiansted

However, there's no actual map to it.
Google Map can't find it either.
Anyone know where it is?

if you are coming from Christiansted, go past Beeston Hill about 1/2 mile, look left, before you get to Gateway there are some long buildings on your left that house Department of Public Works. Waste oil is on the East end of the compound.

I use it as chain lube in my chainsaw.

I wonder what the Department of Public Works does with it?

Recycle it off island. Industrial burners. Send it to the asphalt plant. Concrete form release coating.

The Asphalt plant...

Whatever happened to the Limetree Purchase Agreement where they were going to build a 5 million dollar asphalt plant? The Govenor was boasting about a 75% reduction in the price of asphalt!
I was dreaming of stateside like paved roads with adjacent bicycle paths.
Just imagine...

6 million, but I think it was only for asphalt, actually only the goopy binder, storage.

A HOPEFUL FUTURE FOR ST. CROIX AS LIMETREE BAY PROMISES EXPANSION AT RIBBON-CUTTING EVENT

But I guess Limetree Bay decided against it and some of the money went elsewhere.

Great...

I think everyone knew the Govenors campaign promise of repaving all our roads was BS, but at least the new asphalt plant included in the Limetree deal gave hope that some would be done and the cost of paving private dirt roads might be attainable.

"In the letter, dated August 14, Mr. Francis said it was brought to his attention that $6 million originally intended for the bitumen tanks was released to the government, as Limetree Bay has opted not to pursue the project. Bitumen is the liquid binder that holds asphalt together. Mr. Mapp on multiple occasions had spoken about the benefits of having such tanks in the territory, including lowering the cost of asphalt, which is used to resurface the territory’s roads"

There never was supposed to be an asphalt plant. Only bitumen storage.

That's correct. ONLY STORAGE. People really need to read and comprehend these agreements.

Asphalt plant or Bitumen storage,
either one would have made repairing and paving our roads far more feasible.

The bitumen storage money is being used on the baseball stadium in Frederiksted...

"Mr. Mapp has proposed $6 million from the proceeds of the Limetree Bay Terminals bitumen project; $2 million from the Community Facilities Trust Account; and $1 million from the St. Croix Capital Improvement Fund."
