The St. Croix Animal Welfare Center qualified last summer to compete for thousands of dollars in support money through the ASPCA and ranked in the top 50 (actually 9th! ) in the pre-qualifying round. Since August 1st they have been competing in a number of statistical and promotional events in order to win the actual monies. They are in the last round now and need your vote , DAILY, for the next couple of weeks. It's easy. Just go to www.Votetosavelives.org and select VI-St. Croix Animal Welfare Center from the list of competing shelters. Enter your email address and one of those 'make sure you aren't a computer' things and then press vote. PLEASE, do this everyday until the drawing and help us win some much needed funds. You do not have to live in the VI to vote... tell your stateside friends to support us! The Animal Shelter's in the Virgin Islands are underfunded and struggle to help the hundreds of animals that are abandoned at their doorsteps every month. The VI Government just cut their funding by over 40 %. We really need all the help you can give us. It's easy. Spread the word and lets hope we win some money. THANKS!

I'm onboard for you St. Croix I love your hard work for the animals .
Please help us in St. Thomas too. Humane Society of St. Thomas is also in competition for an award. Voting began Oct 3 and runs until Dec. Google-Shelter Challenge Vote.(the animal rescue site) Click the drop down menu that says United States and choose Virgin islands of the U.S. then hit the search button. both St Thomas and St John will appear. Unfortunately, you can only choose one. Vote and they ask you to confirm your vote by typing the letters/numbers that appear. You can only vote on one device per day. no email needed. So use phones, laptops, desktops, ipads etc. At my house we manage ten votes between home and work devices.
So let's all get busy and vote for St. Thomas Humane Society (or St. John if that's where your allegiance lies.) We can all help St. Croix because they are in a different contest. All the V.I. shelters desperately need funding. LET'S GO V.I. and tell all your friends and family on the mainland to help us too.

Speedy1... regarding free spay and neuters. All animals adopted out from the shelter are spayed and neutered as part of their adoption fee. They very much encourage and promote Spay and Neuter in the community and the STX Animal shelter has a spay and neuter assistance program that allows individuals to purchase spay an neuter vouchers for a very low price. ($25.00 last time I checked). I believe there are some Spay and Neuter sponsorships for individuals that can't afford even that.... but you would have to talk to the shelter directly. It would be nice to be able to afford to offer free spay/neuter and even other services but the reality is that everything costs money and the shelter has none... or at least very little. They open their doors everyday to hungry mouths and dirty cages and medical emergencies... and although there are several dedicated volunteers... staff still has to be paid. Every dollar donated is put to good use and it is amazing what they do out there with so little.
that is why your support... your daily vote in this challenge... is so important. The more support and monies they can raise, the more they can do.

I was just getting ready to do the exact same, but then I wondered....if I send this to people in other areas, won't they just vote for THEIR shelter?
So, I'm being selective...If their hometown shelter is on the list, no email from me!

Since I have 2 e-mail addresses (one here & one in the states) I vote 2x a day. However I don't think STX will ever overcome the huge voting base that the top 3 have, but I'll keep voting..
