We got cows

they came our driveway on saturday. the dogs thought they were dinner. (steaks on the grill that night) they started eating my bougs. i finally had to throw rocks to get them to move on. they were so pretty. they have visited before but never that far into the yard. guess it is so dry they are looking for food and water. herding with a machete? hope that is all he was doing.

they have an invitation to come back when the grass is green and full so they can prune.

Just hope they are street smart and stay away from cars.

Dixie if you see the nut on the motorcycle, it is my hubby trying to help herd the cows.

Audition them for the happy cows commercial, then they'll move to California. :@)

lol i did see a "nut" on motorcycle but didnt know he was herding cattle. lolololo:@) guess that is the 21st century was of a cattle roundup. we could start a cotton valley rodeo. i dont care if they come for a visit but no splashing in the pool. my dogs thought they were awful cute. and big

The man trying to herd them wasn't hurting them at all. The machete was sheathed. He was just waving it around. The cows look well taken care of and fed.

LOL! Cows in the yard is a regular occurence here in the rain forest. The dogs occasionally still try to chase them, and the cows look at them in utter boredom and continue grazing. Some of the cows will actually eat mangos out of my hand, but they do tend to be very timid of people, so you don't have to throw things at them if they are somewhere they shouldn't be, just walk towards them and tell them to mooooove on... they'll go.

How much do you tip a cow? 15% if she makes good pies, 20% if she makes great pies?

These pies are a little fresh. I'm gagging when I go out to water the plants. They are everywhere. Hopefully in a couple of days they will dry up a bit. I had a bad experience as a child. I used to live on a farm and had to walk to the big house to get a key when mom got locked out. Had to walk across a cow pasture and fell in several large piles. I was covered in it and could not quit puking. I was only 5.

There is a heard that lives near the tower on scenic drive. It has bulls, cows and calf. They are very timid and don't even want to be seen. They only work open area at night. It is weird to see a cow live free.

I hated to throw stones at them beth but i tried shooing them. i use to have a cow for 4H in the states and i am a vegaterian so really i love cows. could have a whole pasture full of them for pets if i could.

Tami sorry about your bad experience. i could not imagine what falling in cow piles would be like ......yuck!!!!

I feel that way about horses. they are big, scary and stinky.

this reminds me of trying to find this house on virgin gorda, the directions said to drive through the security gate.

looking and looking for this security gate. lost.

finally drive back out to where i can get cel signal, and i'm given explicit turn by turn directions, and i say that i saw a gate into a cow pasture. that's the security gate, it turns out.

you get out of your car, grab the wire, untwist it, swing open the gate, get back into your car, drive in, get out of your car, retwist the wire, and you are inside the property. cows, calves and bulls everywhere. oh, and don't let any of them out, please.

of course, as soon as i put a hand on the wire, i have their attention, and a couple of nimble calves brush past the car as i drive in, to the road beyond. i look at them, mind churning. i leave them alone and wend my way around the patties to close the gate and get back into the car.

of course, i have a laugh later about the "security gate" and the host's actually thinking that these bovines are not always seeking the golden opportunity of anyone coming or going to bust out.

We have been in the rain forest for a couple of years now, but when we first moved here (i think this was in the first week) I woke up one beautiful, bright morning, grabbed a cup of coffee and stepped outside in my barefeet to enjoy the morning air and the gorgeous view and walked right into a huge, fresh cow pattie. (UUUCCCCCKKKKKKYYY!!!!) Bleh. That was when I decided stepping on dead lizards wasn't as bad as I thought. It can always be worse. 🙂

beth just think of it as fertilizer. now you will grow to be nice and tall. lol omg i would die. but then i have chickens so i have stepped in chick s..t but of course its a bit smaller then cow.
