Wedding/event planning market

Curious if anyone has any insight to what the wedding and event planner market is like from a business standpoint. My gut says as a destination location, that its highly oversaturated but when I searched the forums I didn't see the question come up so I thought I'd ask anyway! I currently operate a wedding planning business where I am now. When we move to the VI, my business partner will take over as sole owner and continue the business. I've applied for some resort type positions but hadn't really thought of carrying my events business with me until today.

As a disclaimer to all those with warnings about making plans before you get on island, I will obviously fully evaluate the market and ultimately make my business decisions based on my own market research but some local input would be appreciated!

Most resorts have an on site planner, but there are many independent planners on all islands. Boat captains can also perform weddings, and they have a catering option that is very appealing to those who want an all inclusive package.

You would need to distinguish yourself from other planners. Once you get your wedding planner credentials, you should get listed on Department of Tourism's website.

If you have celebrity connections who would be willing to help you promote, that would be a huge plus!

Ha! I'll work on my celebrity connections, ms411! LOL I do have a planner certification and about 7 years experience in the industry but I'm conflicted about it because while I enjoy wedding planning, its very PT for me right now and I'm not sure I'd enjoy doing it as my primary income. I'm not surprised to hear there are lots and that its a tough market to become established in. Thanks for the insight!
