What Do You Buy Online? STT

I don't have pets so looking for non pet items that are cheaper online.

I buy only what I can't find on STT after checking local stores. I keep seeing recommendations to buy online, but I don't see the benefit unless it's a DVD I want to share or donate.

What am I missing? When I do an online search for items the sites generate hundreds of results. Takes too long to sort through them and many sites have partnered with other sites so the search results are overwhelming.

I often think VI has an undeserved reputation of being expensive, but it all depends on what you buy and from where.

For example, my favorite cereal is Post Great Grains Banana Nut Crunch cereal. Cheaper here than Amazon and Wal-Mart if you have to pay shipping.

I bought my rocking chair from Home Depot at same price as online and didn't have to pay sales tax.

I want to know what items are a bargain online. Thanks!

I've become so accustomed to buying online that I rarely bother going to stores anymore, with the exception of groceries.

I'm not on STT; I'm on STX, but, for me it's clothes. I go directly to Dillard's, Macy's, Nordstrom's sites and order. Also, I shop Zoolilly for super name brand bargains in clothes and household items. They have everything from furniture, linens, drapes, rugs and kitchen items. Of course, I shop often at Amazon, Wayfair and my home state store of WalMart, too. I buy my auto parts from RockAuto.com. My next Tires will be from Tires.com.
I'm guessing I'm really not sure I answered your question as after reading it again, I'm confused.

One of the reasons I buy online is to get air miles. American and Delta both have a rewards program where you can buy from merchants in their programs and earn at least one mile per dollar spent, often a lot more. Combine this with an air miles credit card, and it pays for my travel every year. It takes a little planning but pays off well for me. Work clothes, swimsuits, running shoes, organic dry and canned goods, bedding, pretty much everything that breaks and needs replacing.

when I see people, including myself, waiting in line 30-45 minutes at the frenchtown PO the online allure is diminished.
I get coffee shipped from Little River Roasters.

EVERYTHING. Haha.

Sorry but the stuff here is ugly!!!! I just have specific taste in minimal MCM. No cutesy island decor for me. 😛

I don’t buy household goods or groceries but everything else including our couch, large solid entertainment centers/dressers, rugs and bed frame accent chairs are from online. I do build quite a few things myself also. I did get our TV, mattress and a few humane society finds but looking around is 99% online. Clothes we do once a year when we go to PR mall.

I also like textiles like mudcloths, nice one of a kind rugs and nice bedding so that’s all bought online too.

Mostly:
CB2
Target
All Modern
Etsy
Wayfair
Amazon

Exit Zero, I was in line at Frenchtown PO and was thinking the same thing about "diminished allure"!

I do buy some clothes online, but only when I want a specific color or style. Ebay has the best search engine because it usually shows only what I requested. The others may show what I requested and a lot of other related stuff I didn't.

I agree that most of the furniture is not my taste, but I managed to find what I wanted on Craigslist with the exception of a queen platform bed with high clearance.

I buy DVDs so I can share and donate. You can't share online videos unless people are at your house. I pass them on to friends and when I get them back I donate to library.

I've always loved shopping and always go to grocery stores when on vacation to buy souvenirs and local snacks. When I go in a store I often see things I didn't know existed (like my new eco friendly adult sippie cup!) and my 24 hour stainless tumbler with straw from Office Max.

I will probably be ordering more solar products because local selection is extremely limited. Boolchands at Havensight has good products but I would like to see more.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Every post is helpful!

Porch thieves are a problem in some places so some people prefer having it shipped here so they can take to States. I never liked package delivery when living in States. It's only great when they can deliver to your job.

I order a lot of things online because there are a lot of things I can't find on STJ and am not a huge fan of popping over to STT to see if I can find things there. I actually haven't even been to STT since the storms. :-0 I've ordered from vitacost quite a bit lately. There are a lot of items there that I can't find here and I've been trying out a bunch of different things to see what I like and what I don't in hopes of having a better-rounded hurricane food stash. The stuff I had, and the stuff I was able to get post storms was REALLY high sodium. Which wasn't good after eating it for a month.

I order most clothes and shoes online. 6pm and JCPenny are usually my go-to's in that department.

In the past I used to order from CVS a ton. I ordered everything off of there, including toilet paper. Since they don't ship Priority anymore, I don't order from them as much. But will still order from Walmart for things I don't need immediately because their prices are usually pretty good, even with shipping costs.

I order a ton of stuff for the public school online. Your donation dollars go much further that way and I'm able to carefully research and find good products as well. There are also specialty education sights that I order from a lot. Reallygoodstuff.com is the major one I order from. Their prices are high on things you can find elsewhere, but they always have sales and specials and frequently give discount codes for your next order. So I make it stretch as far as I can.

For work, I order lots of tools and specialty items that you can't find here. I frequently buy off of ebay for work. And have taken to buying a lot of stuff personally from ebay as well that I used to get off of Amazon. Amazon takes forever to ship my orders for whatever reason. 1-2 weeks after I complete the purchase. So I just buy off of ebay now because they usually ship in 1-2 days.

I am all for supporting local businesses when I can. But STJ is so limited on selection. The other day I had to mail something off and couldn't find bubble wrap for sale in the 4 places I looked. And I wasted an hour looking for it too. I buy printer ink online religiously. And always stay way ahead of the game on that one. Finding what I need in that department is always a challenge and really expensive at OfficeMax.

AandA2VI, where did you buy the sofa from online, seems like it would be a high shipping cost item?

I guess I'm lucky...I get direct mail delivery to my office here on STX.

Julie, KMart at Tutu is having grand reopening sale starting Fri Jun 22, so you may want to plan a trip to STT! Their ads promise prices better than Black Friday.

I text my friends when I see good deals on STT so they don't miss out.

This is one of the things I love about living in FL, free delivery to my doorstep and not standing in long lines at the Post Office to pick up packages!

I find myself ordering more online, up here, than I ever did in STT.

Clothes and shoes from LL Bean, Sahalie, Lands End.
Running clothes and shoes from Road Runner Sports.
Coffee from Keurig.
Occasional sheets, pillows, towels from Company Store.

I buy food locally, but have co-workers who order tons o'stuff from Amazon. I think Amazon deliveries here must keep the postal service solvent.

Vita cost is the bomb!!! So many prices sooo much cheaper than here and soooo many things you can't get here. Order when they have a 10 or 12 or 20% off your order promo and that wipes out the flat $9.99 shipping charge. And shipping is quick too!

Cvs takes a month almost from order to delivery but they have good promotions also.

Just ordered from Zappo - free shipping!!! And good prices and awesome selection.

Now if only petco would ship to the VI again!!! I miss their free shipping over $49 order. I have texted them a few times asking why they can't ship like vita cost does.

Last time I waited in line at the PO was to get a new lock/key for my mailbox LOL. I have packages delivered to the condo office.

I order a variety of things online if I can't find them locally or can get for a much better price online including shipping and don't need in a hurry. Walmart's shipping surcharge has slowed things down a bit. Hand tools, power tools, parts, furnishings, decor, linens, lighting and plumbing fixtures (selection at HD is really pathetic, that seems to be the trend at the home centers), kitchen supplies, small appliances, kitchen utensils, paper products. If I can throw some non-perishable food items in with an order for little or no increase in shipping then I'll do that too. Cereal, coffee, You just have to play around with the order to see what affect it has on shipping, especially Amazon and Walmart. I remember one order I was able to add something like 36 rolls of TP with barely an impact on shipping, but try to add paper towel rolls and the shipping went crazy.

Wayfair - free shipping to port. It was $200 shipping from FL to STT via STT Cargo. The couch was $500 so really the same as a couch here and it’s not ugly. I looked here for months and just nothing that worked for us. The back also comes down and lays flat into a bed which I needed for guests since I went from 3bd to 1. Worked perfect. It’s not as comfy as a traditional couch and I knew that based on reviews but it’s perfect functionality over rides that for me. Always had a guest room over the years and had only family but now everyone wants to come when we don’t have an actual room. Sigh.

Most couches here are more than $700, but they're usually bulky and heavy looking. Too much upholstery in this climate. I get hot just looking at most of it.

I found working with Royal Furniture that they typically only sell what's appropriate to the climate including the underlying construction and types of wood used as well as upholstery.

I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Wayfair as well. They have a ton of selections and there are a lot of product reviews as well so I spent a lot of time reading them and picking things based off of the reviews. But I haven't gotten any of it, so who knows how well I did. But I was able to furnish a studio apartment for less than $1500, so I am not going to feel too bent out of shape if I get a dud or two. I did have tax added to a couple of items, but shipping was free to JAX. I am using Gemini Logistics in JAX to consolidate a 40 container with tons of stuff in it. Price is reasonable and they are easier to work with than the consolidation services through Tropical.

Thx AandA2VI, because I had thought that Wayfair quit shipping for free after the storms last year, I’ll check them out again.

AandA said they shipped free to FLA.
Then they used VI Cargo to get their shipment from FLA to STT.

I don't think they are shipping free to VI.

They ship "free" to Miami then you pay VI Cargo or Paradise Freight to get it to the island.

But, we all know the "free" shipping is really built into the cost.

Target.com is shipping here for free over $35. Even big stuff. I've placed a couple of orders already. This probably won't last long lol!
