Good Day Everyone!

My husband and I will be travelling to STX and STT for 10 days! We will be in STX most of the time. We just can't wait to get down there and see everything! This will be our first real vacation in 5 years! (sad...I know...)

We've been looking at hotels and B&B's to stay at and would like to get some tips on which are good places to stay. We would like a quiet and relaxing place, but still in walking distance to places to eat, the beach and hang out. This will be a vacations trip for sure!

Any advice, ideas or opinions are greatly appreciated!

Cheers, 🙂

Samantha

The Buccaneer is high but very nice. It is not with in walking distance of town. The Divi is nice but very, very far away.
The Comanche is right down town has has been remodeled last year. Lots of places to eat and drink but no beaches.
The Hotel on the Caye has both the beach and is just a 3 minute free ferry ride to Csted.

If you want to stay in Frederiksted (which is close to beach bars/restaurants, etc...) This place has good rates and they are on Rainbow Beach - best sunset!

Hello sam22283 we spent many years vacationing on STX. We thought staying in Christiansted on the boardwalk was the best idea for us Hotel Caravelle or Best Western, both have nice pools, off street parking and their own restaurants. Also you'll be walking distance to all the other restaurants in town. I wouldn't stay at the Comanche, I know it was renovated but I don't think they have it all together yet.
Wherever you stay, get a car for at least part of the time so you can see the island and go to some of our beaches. Have a great time....

STT: I had a wonderful 2-week stay at Green Iguana. Walk 99 steps to town. http://www.thegreeniguana.com/

STX: Spent 3 weeks at Sugar Beach. Loved it. Walk out the door onto the beach. http://www.sugarbeachstcroix.com/

When I first moved to STX, I stayed at the Company House Hotel on Company Street in downtown Christiansted for two nights. I really liked it there because the rooms were nice, had a nice pool and views and it's in a good spot. They also have a computer with internet access in the lobby so you can look things up (restaurant menus, tour company phone #'s, maps) quickly before heading out for the day.

With that said, St. Croix has way more to offer than just Christiansted. I think it would be worth it to stay somewhere outside of Christiansted and Fredericksted, rent a car, and plot out some places you might like to go. (I looked at gotostcroix.com a lot before coming.) You'll see a wider variety of things and get a better feel of the island.

Have fun and be sure to update us on how everything goes!

When I visited before moving here, I stayed at Sand Castle on the Beach in Frederiksted. It's not fancy, and it doesn't have a lot of amenities, but the rooms are really comfortable, and it's so peaceful out there. And it's only a few blocks from where the taxi picks up, so I didn't even have to rent a car. Sand Castle does have wifi, but it only reaches to the lobby, not to the rooms.

Carombola beach club, very nice rooms (more like apartments) and you are right on the beach. Very relaxing and the workers are very friendly, only downside, your cell phone may not work, but that could be a great thing

We are staying with the folks at Arawak Inn,Salt river. I have yet to find one bad review about the place. If my first impression is correct and for me, most times they are correct. I booked with Jennifer and she was by far the politest person I have had a conversation with while searching for a room.. I volunteered for some breakfast work,we'll see if she lets me in her kitchen. Looking forward to our stay with them in Feb.

Jennifer should check with the health department before letting you cook in her commercial kitchen. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can work in a kitchen without a health card.

Some of the suggestions here aren't really what sam says she wants. For instance, Carambola is lovely, really very lovely, but it is an extreme distance. If you stay there, then that's where you STAY, unless you do rent a car or take pricey taxi rides. Arawak is also nice, not quite as extreme, but you can't walk to anywhere, not even a beach. Buccaneer is nice, on the beach and not too terribly far out, but you can't walk to anything. At least taxis wouldn't be so bad from there. SandCastle in Frederiksted is nice, really "beachy" and you CAN walk into F'sted town, if you are pretty active, but it would be a hike, AND you would not want to do it at night!

The hotels in Christiansted town are right in the heart of things, but no beach. Probably the best suggestion I have heard yet is Hotel on the Cay. You do have to take the ferry back and forth to town, but as terry mentioned, it's free. Just have to be watchful of time, so you don't get stranded. I don't really know about the quality of the hotel, but there is a casual restaurant, hugh beach, calm water, etc. I remember a couple of years ago, my kids were visiting in March. The winds and seas were high the entire 2 weeks. We were really getting bummed about the beach conditions (had a 3 year old) and finally thought to check out the Cay. It was perfect! So sorry we didn't think of it until the end of the visit.

I recommend the Buccaneer. We've stayed there twice. Great service and very nice beaches on site. Restaurants on site are also very good. Quick cab ride to downtown. You cannot beat the friendly and personal service the Buccaneer provides its guests. Especially for a first visit, stay at the Buccaneer and explore around for other, later options. However, next trip we make, we'll be at the Buccaneer again!

Hotel on the Cay is where i stayed during my pre move visit, the location was great but the rooms were not in good shape at all. One more thing to consider is the Hovensa turn around, the workers were a bit rowdy and loud. I don't if they are staying at the Kay or not you might want to ask before you book. The workers are staying at many of the hotels check before you book.

When people on this board call places like Divi or Carambola "far far away" or "a Distance" that means it takes about 15-20 min to get to "town" or a food-market. It's not like there is nothing else around them and it's difficult to get to either.
It takes 45 min. to get from Divi to Fredriksted (accross the Island)

I guy I spoke with today who usually stays there is staying at Chenay Bay this week and said that he's really enjoying the location. And that the bungalow is fine, but nothing fancy - king bed and kitchenette. But he REALLY seemed to like the location, kept emphasizing that.
