Children's Parade is on Fri.

Hey! Anyone know where food fair is this yr.??
Emancipation Garden or at the Market square?
I seem to have lost track as been down with the flu.
Need to go to Post office and wondering about traffic flow from Mafolie Hill to PO at Sugar Estate.
I know Fri and Sat. - out of the question.
Thanks.

J'ouvert is a blast. For those who aren't familiar, it's also called a TRAMP, at least it is on STX. At about 6 am a flatbed truck with musicians starts to move through the streets. People join in as it comes by, dancing down the street. But either you get up way before the sun or you stay up all night.

i am assuming the people who were shot might not be having as much fun as the rest. why do people have to spoil a good time for others

Does anyone have some advise about where to find a place to stand/sit for the Adult's parade? How early to get there? What to bring? The bf wants to see the whole thing and gets lots of pictures of it. I just want to be able to enjoy watching it.

I always enjoyed the steps of St Peter Paul but you have to get there early for a spot as it's a popular one! Bring a cushion if parking your bum there (hard steps!); a small folding chair comes in handy if you're going to be just roadside. A hat, suntan lotion and/or an umbrella is a good idea as it can get VERY hot. I wouldn't worry too much about water as there are several people on floats tossing out bottles to the onlookers; and several small bars along the parade route stay open for refreshments. Have fun!

If it's like the STX adult parade, then bring earplugs!

I used to like the Post Office square/hill across from it as each troupe/entry stops there and puts on a show for the local TV broadcasters
at the Grand Hotel. Hats, sunscreen, umbrella, chair and a cooler works but you must get there early, lug all that stuff and find parking
close enough to do so. Remember also that while you may get there early, the parades ALWAYS start later than they are supposed to
so it can be a very long day (adult parade) depending on how many entries there are.Too long if you have small children in tow.

Don't wear flashy jewelry and carry lots of cash, etc. and keep your purses and wallets on your body as there will be throngs of people wandering around. Go with a group of friends if possible.

I will watch from the comfort of my home on WTJX. Sorry, no crowds for me. Ya'll enjoy.

Wear comfy shoes, bring water and light snacks, like you're heading out for a long hike. "Parade watching" is an endurance event.

Thanks, everyone, for the advise about where to watch the parade. I have a hot pink Wal-Mart backpack cooler that I think I'll take with us. It can hold water, sodas, and an emergancy snack (then be mostly empty when we leave, no lugging heavy cooler.) Hats and light colored clothing will be worn. Comfy shoes are a gimme. I think I need a trip to Tutu for a compact umbrella and a little fold-up camp stool.

So, how early IS early? I seem to remember that last year's parade didn't start before noon, scheduled at 10 o'clock. This is what I expected then and this year, too. No stranger to the phenomenon. This month marks our 2 and 1/2 year anniversary of living on STT. Would getting there by 9 o'clock be early enough?

Drinking commences at 10. Marching begins a few hours later. 9 seems early to me. But if you have a chair and shade, then why not...? Just know you're in it for the long haul. Pace yourself.

Well, I was planning to watch WTJX off and on to see what was happening with the childrens parade and the adult's tomorrow while I got caught on on stuff. Guess what............I forgot I have DISH TV Service now so no more watching the carnival parades PBS channel. I am bummed.
