Hello All,
My husband, myself and 9 year old daughter are moving to STX July 1! My husbands boss said he can work remotely as long as he can stay in touch through the internet to make deliverables. I am from STX and highly concerned about the loss of internet or wifi connections for him to do his work. Any suggestions on what he should do? This is important as his job makes or breaks our ability to move.Thanks.

Jess

Your only real option at the moment is BroadbandVI, but, its the best option! VIYA's fiber lines will take months more to be fully rebuilt.

If internet access is important, it would be good to ensure that the home you chose has line of sight to a BBVI tower (that works).

I personally love BBVI and would never switch.

If Internet reliability is critical then you need to have a backup. Something like BBVI or Viya fiber once they get back together and use AT&T or Viya 4G as backup. Of course hurricane outages are another matter.

This. You'll need 2 options for backups if 100% uptime is essential. I work remotely and have had times when both my primary and backup providers went down.

www.virginislandsinternet.com for the most reliable, before or after a storm.
It's good as a primary or secondary connection.
PM me for more info. Getting excellent feedback from customers. Some saving over $200 month.....

VIYA is only serving old customers at this time for internet. That may change by July but who knows.

I tried to get a me-fi or apply for internet service and they wouldn't even take my name to put on list for future.

Service thru my AT&T phone has been up and down since I got back.

I was hoping BBVI could get me on another tower but just missed it.
Hopefully, they'll be completely up and running sooner than later.
They are the best here.

You can probably get Hughes Net but between equipment and installation costs run over $1000.

I've heard terrible things about Surge and their inefficiency from tech people who have no affiliation with BBVI or VIYA.

You may wish to rent something that has a back up generator for electricity as well.

I've been back 13 days and 6 outages. WAPA is not the most reliable at best of times!

You folks over on STT/STJ have had a run of bad WAPA luck lately.

I agree backup power to go with your backup Internet should also be on your shopping list for working at home.
